in the semi legendary musical flop "Shinbone Alley," Eartha Kitt starred as Mehitabel and was understudied by Chita Rivera. Of course, Kitt recently replaced Rivera in the Broadway revival of NINE.
Interestingly, several years after it flopped on Broadway, when Shinbone Alley was adapted into an animated film, Mehitabel was voiced by Carol Channing.
