Christina Applegate and Outer Crititcs Awards

Posted: 4/24/05 at 8:43pmWas she even eligible, since she just started last Monday? My first instinct tells me she wasn't even eligible to be nominated.

Posted: 4/24/05 at 9:23pmShe wasn't. They would have hadf to have seen her performance by the cut off date which was right before she started.

I doubt she would have been nominated though.
I am not ragging on Christina! It's just that it doesn't sound like her performance is that great, which is unfortunate. I was (and still am!) rooting for her.

Variety says she was snubbed. I think she was eligible after all.
This is clearly Victoria Clark's year.

Posted: 4/24/05 at 9:34pmShe definitely would have been nominated over Jenn Gambatese. Its a really weak year for women.

Joshua,
How can you make a comment like that without having seen it? I have not seen it so I don't know either. But it is a abnoxious comment to make. From all I hear even people that don't like the production are loving here. So my educated guess would be that she would have recieved a nomination. But to make a negative comment like that with no basis is ( forgive me) kind of stupid.

Posted: 4/24/05 at 9:39pmThe only way she could be eligible is if voters would have seen her performance. She has only been playing one week and I do believe ( and poster NYadgal would be the one to ask) cut off was a week from today.

She will be nominated for a Tony - she's fantastic. I would give her the award hands down, she's truly great.
She clearly wasn't eligible. She started performances on Monday - that gave voters very few opportunites to see her. She wasn't snubbed - she wasn't eligible. There's no way Dilly or Gambatese would have been nominated over her had she been eligible.

Tiny;
Sorry.. Eden is in a show that the vast majority of people consider dreadful and a waste of money. It will never, ever, ever happen.

To be fair, Ramona Keller got rather positive reviews, but she's a supporting actress and doesn't have a chance because of the show she's in, anyway.
And Applegate's "snubbing" is nothing compared to how thoroughly Spelling Bee and Gem of the Ocean got hosed.

I agree Plum, but I think people are talking about the fact that it is such a glaring, obvious omission.
Also...perhaps Spelling Bee and Christina were not on the boards long enough to be seen by OCC voters? Just a thought...

Posted: 4/24/05 at 11:27pmThey've had plenty of time to see Spelling Bee- the whole Off-Broadway run. If they're going to include non-Broadway shows in their nominations, they need to be there to see them.

Posted: 4/24/05 at 11:34pmThe OCC didn't even give a NOMINATION to Bernadette Peters in Gypsy in 2003. That completely blew any credibility they may have had (which wasn't much) to me. They continue to be a big joke.
