This past Thanksgiving, Disney/Cirque du Soliel FINALLY released LA NOUBA onto DVD.

Cirque had wanted to release this years ago, but Disney said "No" - thinking it would decrease sales to the show. But finally, after some convincing, they agreed.

I'll be interested in seeing what it does to ticket sales. Perhaps if there is zero decrease, Disney will then move to bring AIDA, LION KING, and BEAST to DVD...

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Oooh, wow!! LA NOUBA is absolutely INCREDIBLE! I've seen it twice at Downtown Disney in Disney World in Florida... MESMERIZING!

I don't think it would decrease sales -- the Alegria DVD has been out for years, and the show still sells out wherever it goes. It's a touring production, though, so that may be different.

I have a ton of Cirque DVDs, and I'd still go see the shows if they came to my area. Some things just can't be captured on video.

There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

This is a big deal. They never seem to release them before they retire and yes, it is different for a resident show than a touring thing.
