I went to a seminar hosted by Carol Channing back in May and she actually talked about this movie (and her scenes with Clint). She mentioned that even though she had more acting experience than he did, she had never had a serious "kissing" scene before so she didn't know what to do. Clint had to help show her how to act in a romantic scene. She also mentioned how atractive Clint "used" to be -- which she followed by saying "you wouldn't know it by looking at him now".
She went on to say how awful she thought the movie was and she had hoped that people would have forgotten about it by now -- but it always inevitably gets brought up. She said that Ginger Rogers (who was also in the film) is probably still being asked about it in the afterlife. To show just how awful the movie was, she mentioned that a lot of the dialogue was improvised or written on the spot. She said Ginger Rogers' mother would be on the set each day and would make suggestions like "that line is awful, this is what it should be.." -- and many of her suggestions ended up in the film!
