Cody Green provided Time Out New York with a nice little Q&A in the Dance section of the magazine. His distaste for STEP IT UP AND DANCE is more than apparent.
Love him or hate him...he sure looks good in the accompanying picture!

Posted: 3/19/09 at 4:10pmHe's such a magnificent dancer. I wonder if some of the other choreographers trained to reproduce Robbins's work might have helped him more with the feelings and the meanings behind the steps.

"He's such a magnificent dancer."
Actually PalJoey, the kid ( Ryan Steele) playing Baby John was the stand out dancer in the show for me. Yes, he's only 18, but with age and a little more seasoning, he'll knock the socks off of Green's dansical attributes.

Posted: 3/19/09 at 4:57pmI agree with you about Ryan--he's perfect. I just wish Cody and Curtis had switched roles and that they all would have been given more help with understanding the spirit and meaning of the choreography.

Posted: 3/19/09 at 5:06pmAbsolutely !!!! Why was the direction left out of the dancing? Was Laurent's just THAT busy with the book scenes that he failed to notice what McKneely was doing ? Then again, perhaps that's just the way he wanted it. Payback is an ugly thing.

Posted: 3/19/09 at 5:08pmIt's times like this that you wish Lee Theodore was still around. She'd whip that wimpy cast into shape in no time !

^ I think you need a new hobby, Trish2. Every single one of your posts since March 10th are of you bashing this production. And yes, I did stalk your profile.

"And yes, I did stalk your profile. "
Well, it's nice to know that I'm being stalked for my comments. Since you seem to live on this Board, i've noticed several mundane comments over the months, but have never called you on them. In short, this lackluster revival annoyed me. We are all entitled to our opinions. And if you are ever fortunate to work with the same types of geniuses that created this production, then perhaps you'll understand my particular stance on it.

If Lee Theodore had worked with these dancers, they would have been infinitely better.
ljay--Lee (Becker) Theodore was the original Anybodys. She founded the American Dance Machine.
