The 79th Annual Tony Awards Telecast!

Jun 7, 2026 — 10:55:11 PM

Broadway61004 said: "ljay889 said: "Wasn’t last year the 50th anniversary of ACL?"This is the 50th anniversary of the Tony wins, though, which is what I believe they're going for with this." Ahh, that makes more sense now.

Universal's WICKED Films - News & Discussion Thread

Nov 20, 2025 — 12:09:39 AM

Saw the film tonight and enjoyed it. It is not quite as good as part 1, but it’s a satisfying conclusion. The tone is uneven for at least the first quarter of the film, and I wasn’t fully pulled in until “As Long As Your Mine” which was fantastic, and an improvement over the stage version. The new songs were nice, but basically unnecessary and not up to par with the rest of the score. I didn’t like bringing the intensity of “March of the Witch Hunters” to a halt for “Girl in the Bubble” - but...

Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande in SITPWG?

Nov 5, 2025 — 9:48:02 AM

Rumors are swirling on X that they will be starring in a West End revival directed by Marianne Elliot. Grande also said this in her recent NY Times feature and teased something stage-related coming up soon: “It’s not on Broadway, but it’s something that I’m very excited about and inspired by.” The more I think about it, the more I can really see it. Both of them are age appropriate for the roles, and this would give Grande the chance to show off her live theater chops in one of the best femal...

Why are audiences so poorly behaved these days?

Jul 21, 2025 — 7:21:53 AM

I had a terrible experience at Sunset in May with people filming. It also doesn’t help when Nicole and other performers repost audience video recordings on social media, making it seem acceptable. I’ve noticed since Covid that pre show announcements have practically gone away. Theater staff seem burnt out dealing with audience behavior, and rightfully so. How did things get so bad? It’s not really enjoyable going to shows anymore when there’s constant audience interruptions.

SUNSET BLVD. Revival

Jul 18, 2025 — 11:00:16 PM

The Company tour was cheap, underwhelming, and not well cast. It didn't have an ounce of the magic of the Broadway production.

Did anyone see OLD FRIENDS when Bernadette was out?

Jun 29, 2025 — 11:39:06 PM

I finally got to see this yesterday before it closed. Bernadette still seemed to be recovering from her recent illness. She also seemed a bit low energy, but I am always happy to see her on stage. Salonga clearly walks away with the show, though. She is a powerhouse. I’m not usually a fan of revues, but this was much better than I expected. It blew away the forgettable and bland “Prince of Broadway.” And while “Sondheim on Sondheim” was unique and had a narrative, the odd orchestrations and a...

GYPSY ending scene

Jun 22, 2025 — 12:57:21 PM

The LuPone ending was chilling. It was controversial at the time, but I found it really impactful. Patti's Rose embracing her name in lights as the "ROSE" bulbs slowly dimmed was marvelous. One last chance to embrace her dream before it fades away. I think it's now safe to say nobody can direct GYPSY like Laurents. We've seen two incarnations without him that produced mixed results.

The next Desiree should be Nicole Scherzinger

Kad said: "One aspect of Sondheim's brilliance was his willingness to let people try new approaches to his work- it seemed like he was willing to sign off on any experiment, just to see if it actually worked. I don't know if it was his conscious goal, but it kept his work alive and even managed to eventually return his flops to relevance (and in the case of Merrily, into an actual hit and bonafide part of the canon). Andrew Lloyd Webber has seemingly come around to this way of thinking, as we...

The next Desiree should be Nicole Scherzinger

I wouldn't cast a person of color as Desiree anymore than I would cast a whilte person as Effie in DreamGirls.Blind Casting exists to capitulate to actors who complain they aren't able to play a role. It doesn't serve the play, it serves the ego of actors.Write more plays for people of Color. Purpose was fantastic! Don't try to take a white experience a...

The next Desiree should be Nicole Scherzinger

Jun 12, 2025 — 10:31:41 PM

I've been thinking about this lately, and it's a controversial take, but it feels like the right time to post it (for obvious reasons.) I think Desiree in the next A Little Night Music revival should be Nicole, not Audra. Nicole has the perfect glamour and sex appeal for the role (a la CZJ) - and it would be easy to understand why two men are fighting over her Desiree. It would also give Nicole the chance to excel in a lighter and funnier role. Yes, her voice is overqualified for it, and ther...

2025 Tony Awards Reactions Thread

I thought Erivo was perfect from start to finish, and she needs to be booked for next year immediately.

Encores! 2026 Update?

Jun 8, 2025 — 1:31:53 PM

quizking101 said: "As far as I know, THE WILD PARTY is still on the docket for next year. There is also potential for WOMEN ON THE VERGE IF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN. A concept was drawn up for it and presented , but Encores decided to go for WONDERFUL TOWN instead given the time crunch."That would be great, but it needs to be mostly the original Broadway version, with that iconic overture.

LuPone on McDonald

lol, her career has been on a high the last few years.

I am glad she apologized, and it reads sincere.

Words can't describe what this entire situation has become. Outside of the woke theater crowd on Twitter, I am seeing elsewhere that a lot of the sentiment is going back towards Patti's side. I do wish Patti would make a statement, and we can all move on.

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews

It's been consistently clearing well over $1mil weekly. This production will easily last through the summer."I’ve been confused by that sentiment floating around as well. The production is not struggling.
