Posted: 9/19/03 at 9:21amNYU has a graduate school entirely for musical theatre writing (music writing/script writing/lyric writing) Its quite an excellent program. Ive seen some of their work and much of it is far better than some of the trash on Bway.

I need to be an undergraduate before I think about graduate school. But I am very interested in:
NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Fordham, Colombia, and Juilliard*
*although I think Juilliard's directing program is for graduates only.

Posted: 9/19/03 at 5:42pmWell, don't disreguard the regular CUNY schools just yet. Some of them have some great film and theater programs. The tuition is much cheaper and the classes are not as demanding as some of the over-hyped and over-priced University. You would be able to focus a great deal on your directing projects, and therefore have a great portfolio to move onto Graduate school at someplace like NYU or The New School or something.

Hunter College actually has a great film department; I'm not sure about there theatre department. But it's right in the heart of Manhattan.
The College of Staten Island is great in both areas. I went there for a year and studied film.
Brooklyn has some great schools.
LaGuardia Community College is supposed to be really good.
Borough of Manhattan Community College is kind of scary....I would leave that one out.
Go to that link and click on Colleges and Programs on the upper left side. I just figure it's more options for those not looking to spend a lot on tuition.
