Colm Wilkinson & CCBB

I heard a rumor from a pretty reliable source that Colm Wilkinson will be joining the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. What I dont know is if this person was referring to the UK tour or if there is a tour planned for the US. I have checked the equity website and do not see CCBB mentioned. Can anyone shed any light on this? And the person was absolutely sure it was CCBB and not PQ. Thanks in advance for helping a first time poster to this board.

There was supposed to be a US tour. I suppose there may still be one, sometime down the road.

I doubt he will. It was announced earlier that he would be doing Pirate Queen. Since that is a new musical i dont know if he would want to be too busy with other things. ESPCIALLY A TOUR!

wickedfreak, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing a tour. In years past, when a show closed, the entire original cast went out on the tour. You say that Colm would never tour as if tours were below Broadway... that is absolutely not the case. I've seen performances on a national tour that have far out-shined performances I've seen on Broadway.

Last I heard was Pirate Queen....and that was as of a week ago...who knows? Apparently no one, until the contracts are signed.

timote316, I never said there was anything wrong with a tour. What i meant was that if he will probobly not have enough time to do a tour of he is with Pirate Queen. Sorry for the confusion.

Dont get me wrong because I don't think there is anything wrong with a tour. I love the tours. However, Colm is a pretty well known actor and he only does great things. I'm not saying that Chitty is wonderful because it is but he would be playing Grandpa and it just doesn't seem like something he would do since he has had so much success in his career.

Um, do you know who played Grandpa on Broadway? Phillip Bosco. A veteran actor, and pretty well known, at least comparatively. If he would do it, it's certainly not a part that's above Colm Wilkinson. I'm not saying Chitty is high art, obviously, but it's not exactly beneath him, either.

Whatever. This is clearly just a rumor.

Honestly I don't think that Phillip Bosco is a well known name. If you look up his profile you might go OH! but everyone knows Colm because he has done Les Mis so much and every time there is a concert for it, or they do a song from it on a tribute it is always him. Also, Phillip did it on broadway not on a tour. It's just like Sutton she used to do tours and now that she has had a little bit of success she doesn't anymore. Same thing can be said about Norbert or anyone who has had any success on Broadway.

Kind of moot, I think, being that this -- if it's true -- is more likely about a UK tour than a US tour. A US tour isn't happening any time soon, as far as I can figure.

However, saying that Colm is a "name" because of his history with Les Mis is a really big case of tunnel-vision. Sometimes we forget that people who are "famous" to us are inconsequential little dust specks on the entertainment map to the rest of the world. Yes, Les Mis is hugely popular, etc, etc but he's famous to people who know theatre. Truthfully, so is Phillip Bosco, but he's done an awful LOT on Broadways, I really don't think we're comparing apples and oranges here. But honestly, Les Mis isn't the be-all, end-all of the musical theatre world. Just 'cause he has a very big attachment to it doesn't mean he's above touring.

Actors usually dislike being typecast, and it seems some of you have forgotten that many enjoy participating in something that is very different from what they're known for. I did hear that Colm is doing Pirate Queen, but a role in Chitty just might add something for him to his career--not in prestigue but in variety. Chitty is miles apart from something like Les Miz. He wouldn't have as much responsibility, would be in a show that caters to a wide variety of young and old alike, and could really just have FUN. There are many reasons for him to want to do this, and why shouldn't he??

You know what thats great if he does the tour. All I was saying is when was the last time Phillip Bosco did a tour. I'm not talking any crap about Phillip this was only about Colm. So I don't care because Huey Lewis loves me.
