So ok I saw The Color Purple yesterday afternoon. The show Was amaizing. A little slow in the begining but hang in their it just keeps getting better. When I saw the understudy board say there was an understudy for Celie I was dissapointed, but let me tell you, Montego Glover does not dissapoint. In fact you would never ever know she was an understudy. She put so much effort in the role. I loved her. Biggest higlight of the show for me. NaTasha Williams was hillarious and soulfull as Sofia. Elisabeth Withers-Mendes blew me away not just with her singing but also with her acting. She actuallu made me cry. The rest of the cast was terrific as well. Darlesia Cearcy was great as Nettie and Chaz Sheperd played a fantastick Harpo. I would definatley reccomend this show.

Posted: 2/12/07 at 6:59pmElisabeth Withers-Mendes was in? The last two times I've seen the show and the last few times I have heard of friends going to see it, Angela Robinson has been in for her. Well, at least she hasn't "unofficially" left the show.

Posted: 2/12/07 at 7:13pmI am not surprised that Montego was amazing! She is someone that is very deserving of finally getting her Broadway debut! She was Aida at "Sacramento Music and North Shore" and also Lorell in Dreamgirls. Among many other roles her bio is a list of very good theaters. I am happy to hear that she may be taking over the role in Chicago with Latoya London from American Idol. But not sure how clear those sources are.

I've seen THE COLOR PURPLE twice within the last month, both on weeknights, and Elisabeth was on each time. And yes, she is AMAZING. She absolutely blows me away every time I see it.

Posted: 2/14/07 at 11:25amI've seen Angela Robinson once. She was a major disappointment to me, in comparison with both the acting and singing chops of Ms. Withers-Mendes. She just didn't convey much emotion and exude much sensuality. Plus, the chemistry between Withers-Mendes and both LaChanze and Jeannette Bayardelle was so electric, while with Ms. Robinson I found any sense of chemistry to be non-existent.

Posted: 2/14/07 at 5:30pmI'm so glad I witnessed Montego's first performance.I now understand why the audience and cast went crazy for her during the curtain call. Well She was great and you guys should try to check her out next time she plays Celie. Go to her website and it will tell you.
