Color Purple cast on Letterman Tonight

Just a reminder.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I strongly disliked the show.

But their performance was EXCELLENT - she's easily the strongest performer in the show and could definitely win the Tony.

They did "Push the Button" (I don't know if that's the title of it or not, but that's what they kept on singing, so I figured it was).

Edit: musicman beat me to it!

Ehhhh....

I am really excited to see the show because lots of people have told me how wonderful it is. However, this number would not have made me run out and buy tickets.

Why didn't they do one of the songs that showcases the vocal talents of the cast? I have heard about some amazing gospel numbers that take place in the show. One of those would have been better.

Just my opinion.

I still can't wait to see the show.

I really liked this number because it had a lot of energy. It was sexy and full of life. I think that this number was a great choice for the Letterman Show. Although it doesnt have the vocal power of the title song, it has that energy that i think will bring people in to the Broadway Theater.

When they performed it on Oprah it was amazing. I just remember thinking, "wow she can sing" and the number just looked so solid. Like all the choreography and what not just looked really solid. I think she could win a tony too.

BTW...What exactly does The Color Purple mean? i haven't seen the movie or read the book, so could someone explain it to me? I thought the title song would kinda explain it, but i dont think it did.

re: Color Purple cast on Letterman Tonight

I could be wrong, but after seeing the movie a gazillion times, I always thought the constant use of "the color purple" referred to the flowers in the fields where Celie lives...again, not positive, just what I seem to remember.

re: Color Purple cast on Letterman Tonight

^^^....I read the novel and it seems throughout the book... the appearance of brighter colors indicated freedom/liberty of some sort with the various characters experience. For an example: Kate takes Celie shopping for a new dress, the only color options are drab ones—brown, maroon, and dark blue. Later, Celie and Sofia use bright yellow fabric from Shug’s dress to make a quilt...
And when Celie describes her religious renewal/refreshing, she spoke on... how she never noticed the wonders that God has made, such as “the color purple.”
