Come back to Broadway, Michael Ball!

Other shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love, Godspell, The Pirates of Penzance, and the aforementioned Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
...but it's totally okay not to "get it." I hate to admit it, because Im sure I'll get slammed for this, but I never really "got" Betty Buckley:) It doesn't mean I didn't try.

"Michael Ball is a gem, and we should be so lucky to have him back on Broadway. It would rank somewhere between Barrowman and Warlow on the "valuable imports we don't deserve" list. I'd happily close most of the shows currently running in exchange for "Ball on Broadway" 4 times a week."
I could't agree more!

Posted: 11/3/04 at 11:15amI have to totally agree. The man can sing anything. I even have a recording of him doing opera. But I have to admit I have a certain leaning toward the show tunes and ballads. So if Weinstein wants to make Neverland into a musical the perfect choice is Michael Ball. What a perfect match. Posted: 11/6/04 at 1:28pmWhy why WHY will he not go back into theatre?!?! I didn't go to the last tour, but the others have seemed to be pure self-indulgence full of the same-ole-same-ole. He does so much better in theatrical shows! He's not a popstar.

Posted: 11/6/04 at 4:14pmWith all due respect he has been "back in theatre"...15 months in CCBB followed by some time off to record an album and a concert tour. Back in the spring in "Sunset Boulevard" (which it is rumored is still in the works for additional shows) and then two weeks of "Alone Together" at Haymarket (which IS a theatrical piece, not a concert). He'll also be performing the role of Jean Valjean at Windsor Castle for a special performance of Les Mis in November. For whatever reason(s), bringing him to Broadway in CCBB was not in the cards (disappointingly). He's recording a new album this winter, it makes sense that he may tour again to support it. He has the luxury of being able to do both theatre and concerts and it's clear he enjoys both mediums so why not. Personally (and having seen both), I'd love nothing more than to see him do "Sunset" again or bring "Alone Together" over here but don't knock his concert performances...he's terrific in that genre as well.

I mean back in theatre for good.
And yeah, he's a good concert performer. But the concerts are starting to appear somewhat self-indulgent. I mean, how much longer does he think he can keep pretending to be Tom Jones? It's hardly what he's best at. And there's plenty of up-tempo MT material that would suit him better.

"Why why WHY will he not go back into theatre?!?!"
I'd say the answer to that one is simple because he doesn't want to.I don't think it's a case of pretending to be Tom Jones either
even if they happen to sing a couple of the same songs.
Michael likes to sing other material apart from MT material,he does it well so good luck to him.Why should he constrict himself to one genre in that way? It's clear to hear him talk that the theatre is important to him but there is something even more important. All the types of music out there, there is to sing and imo that's why he continues to tour, record albums etc instead of staying purely in the realms of Musical theatre. It's not so very different from Hugh Jackman i.e.a performer with a fantastic voice to but does other things besides MT.
I agree Lori 'Alone Together' would be what I'd like to see him do.

Posted: 11/8/04 at 9:58amIn a show on Broadway would be great. Or off Broadway in Alone Together. But if not then some more concerts over here would be great. Then he could sing all kinds of songs. Musical theatre, light opera, pop, standards (which I happen to like). I think it is terrific if he does another UK tour. I also like the summer series of concerts he did where he had guests who were in the current productions of Phantom, Les Mis, and Bat Boy. Plus the full orchestra. Great listening
