The Producers are for the Middle Aged person.
Oh sonny pass the cane. Guess I am middle aged.
Funny as I was proofed tonight.
Well if I am middle aged that is ok. I loved the Producers.
I also love my Uncle Mel Brooks.

Okay dude, did I say traditional Broadway Orchestra? No, what I meant about theatrical interpretation was that I didn't want to hear something that I could just buy an ABBA CD and hear the same. I wanted to hear something DIFFERENT using those classics (ex: Moulin Rouge). But when you use synthesizers to replace string or horn instruments, the only thing that comes to mind is "cheapo!" Billy Joel used to use synthesizers in his music, but you don't hear a lot of that in Movin Out.

Alright, just wanted to know what you were thinking it might be. It probably would've been cool if they did something different with the orchestrations. Unfortunately, most people expect if they're going to use ABBA music, it should be played with authentic ABBA orchestrations. Though I do think it could be interesting/entertaining to hear "Symphonic ABBA" LOL.

Hmmm, like a special edition "Mamma Mia" with a cast from around the world and a 100 piece orchestra. Eat your heart out Les Mis, LOL.

Why would anyone buy a MAMMA MIA CD? I can't understand this. It is a musical using ABBA songs (and at the same time trying to sound like ABBA in many of them) why not just buy the ABBA GOLD CD? It's the same as why buy the Bette Midler Rosemary Clooney tribute album, why not just buy a 'best of' Rosemary Clooney CD. And I like Midler. After all it is the source material.

Oh yes, I'll take The Producers side in this argument, as if you hadn't already guessed.

To me, the Mamma Mia CD is quite different from the original ABBA recordings, which is why I like it. The singers are different. The arrangements are different (updated). It is a completely different sound from the original. I have friends who hated ABBA, but loved the show and bought the OLC because it is NOT ABBA performing. I don't think the synthesizers sound "cheapo" at all. They sound exactly how the music was intended to sound. It's disco/dance pop! If I was buying a cast recording of a musical based on ABBA tunes and was picky about whether or not they used synthesizers like the original arrangements, I would be sure to go to a store where I could listen to it in advance (or online sound clips) before I spend my money and then complain about it.

alterego - Sometimes people enjoy hearing different versions of songs. Sometimes they buy a CD for the performing artist, not the songs themselves. Elaine Paige was the first to record Memory, but it's not my personal favorite or the only one I will listen to. It can be fun to hear the variations brought out from various interpretations of the same songs. It's like having different cast recordings of the same musical.

PS - There are several symphonic recordings of ABBA available from various international symphonies.

Mister Matt- Are you a dancing queen?

I like to dance (sometimes), but I'm not a queen. Just homo.

"I blame Louise for not demanding one!"

Do you really think she had that kind of power? I wish she had, because I LOVE the Broadway cast and a recording of their amazing performances would have been incredible. I also believe she wanted to record the score, but it wasn't up to her. Benny and Bjorn were the ones in charge, and even though they did consider it at first, they decided not to. Maybe their reasoning was that there'd be so many productions all over the world, and they can't record all of them- I dont know. They did, however, make a HUGE mistake by not recording it because after all, it IS Broadway, not just some lame production; and secondly, the leads were indeed the best. I honestly believe they cannot be topped- and it's a shame we cannot enjoy their performances on cd over and over again.
