We already knew it was going to be either June or July...not really NEWS.

Why be negative, Overkill?
I'm glad its confirmed!! Aladdin was always my favorite Disney movie. Now to plan a trip to Seattle in July!!
The guy is just doing his job. It was nit really official befor, but now it is.
That's interesting, so it's a Flagship production and not the pre-Broadway tryout everyone assumed it was. Not expecting much, though glad the great (though over-extended) Casey Nikolaw is attached.
Darn! I'll just miss it
any chance of performing in August?

Hey Seattle:
"Make way for Prince Ali
Say hey! It's Prince Ali
Hey! Clear the way in the old Bazaar
Hey you!
Let us through!
It's a bright new star!
Oh Come!
Be the first on your block to meet his eye!
Make way!
Here he comes!
Ring bells! Bang the drums!
Are you gonna love this guy!
Prince Ali! Fabulous he!
Ali Ababwa
Genuflect, shom some respect
Down on one knee!
Now, try your best to stay calm
Brush up your sunday salaam
The come and meet his spectacular coterie
Prince Ali!
Mighty is he!
Ali Ababwa
Strong as ten regular men, definitely!
He faced the galloping hordes
A hundred bad guys with swords
Who sent those goons to their lords?
Why, Prince Ali"
It's taking Oklahoma's place, which was scheduled to run until August 6. Not sure if dates will be the same.
Not trying to be negative, I just didn't think it was news enough to post a new thread, that's all.
Any more news on casting etc?

Jonathan Freeman, the original voice of Jafar is in it

What do you mean its a flagship production?
Does that mean it wont end up on Broadway??
They're only performing it so regional and community theatres can have the rights to perform it. Like what they did with High School Musical.
PLEASE, tell me Freeman is playing Jafar! That would literally MAKE my life!
If this takes off I think that Rossen guy who was cut from Idol would make a good Aladdin, he has a good enough voice and looks like the cartoon, lol.
Both Jafar and the Genie have been cast, but I don't know who has been cast, just that the roles are cast.

Bill Irwin as the Genie, please!
Just to hear 'Friend Like Me' played by a live orchestra would be a treat for me!
Can't wait to hear what new fun songs Menken has in store for us with this! Even if it does flop, the score should be fun and touching!
While this sounds intriguing, one once again must question, why not Hercules?

There will actually only be one new song in the the rest of the score will be mad up of Restored material by Ashman Menken and Rice along with the Original 6 from the film and To Be Free which was written for the Stage show at DCA but I'm wondering if the One Jump Ahead Reprise will be in the show or if it will be replaced with Proud Of Your Boy?
Now that it is becoming a stage production, the adaptation could very well re-introduce the "mother" storyline and bring back the "Proud of Your Boy" song. I'm sure Menken would LOVE to do that in memory of Ashman.
That thought being shared, if it does happen, I hope that the execution benefits the show instead of doing it for the sake of honoring Ashman. That storyline was one of the problems with the original storyboards of the movie.
jonartdesigns - I agree that Hercules should be done on Broadway.
Was it not on a Disney cruise of some sort? It looked...entertaining...But if put on Broadway with the right team behind it, it could be a fantastic gospel-filled night! haha
I'd love for Danny Burstein to play the Genie.
I really hope they wind up bringing this to Broadway, Aladdin is one of my all time favorite Disney movies and I think if done well it could work beautifully onstage.
Though my real question is when are they bringing Hunchback over here? That would be amazing.
