As the brilliant, talented and superfantabulous Miss Bebe Newirth points out in the interview on this very site: A Chorus Line is still the longest running Broadway musical. CATS, Les Miz and PO(ta?)TO are West End musicals.
As she said, "Cats all but destroyed humanity of theatre- everything was special effects... Theatre is a visceral experience for the audiences as well as performers. The more effects and machinery, the more you remove the audiences from their experience. I blame Cats for that."
AMEN, Bebe, I will love you for the rest of my life for saying that out loud and on the record.
Cameron Mackintosh (sp?): She's a witch! Get the electric chair and burn her! Only use the remote controlled electric chair. And actually we're only going to use 2 guards instead of the usual 4 the other 2 will be replaced by robots.

I think that's supposed to be "his reply" to what Bebe said.
I don't really see how CATS was all speical affects though...eh *shrug*

I saw Cats on tour yesterday and there was barely any special effects. I enjoyed the show based on the performers.

Yes. And the moral of that story is, non-equity productions tend not to have the production values that Bebe was talking about when the litter box was the Winter Garden Theater.

All I can say about CATS. Saw it. Didn't like it. Don't care to ever see it again. POTO, on the other hand, would be a different story. One would hope they would be able to keep the production values up either way.

Well the question is would you rather have POTO or Cats in that number 1 slot? It's like some posters stance on this board about Bush. Anything to get Cats out of that top spot! Even if it is POTO.

Yes, if you disqualify the shows that have run longer than it, 'A Chorus Line' is the longest-running Broadway show ever.
Also, if you discount the extra points the New England Patriots scored, the Carolina Panthers won The Super Bowl.

"If"--one of the most powerful words in the dictionary. There is a world of possibilities in that index file.

yay! Go Phantom!!
I wish it all the best, it's gone up and down in quality over the years, but the current cast has truly tightened it to a entertaining level.
Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical, too!!! I'll be seeing it with a friend of mine, maybe several friends!!

Go POTO!! I'm seeing it in March -- can't wait!!
As for A Chorus Line being the longest running bway show ever, does anyone know how many performances there were?
