...The Producers expected to lose their $1,000,000.00 plus "travel budget" for the WORLD PREMIERE in February of 2000...a mere 28 (about 45 performances) days! They re-couped in about 15 days. This is in the book they produced of the 'creative process of THE PRODUCERS'.
Not sure how quickly they did recoup in NYC, but I think I remember it was during pre-sales!

What is the average length a show must play nowadays to recoup its investments. I think less than a year is quite quick for a massive show like Hairspray! Sunset Boulevard played for ages everywhere, and still lost money!

Don't they usually have to sell out for a full year on average?
