I was just wondering. Has the same performer ever won a TONY award for the same category or different category two years in a row?
For instance, one year a performer winning for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and then winning for Best Lead Actress in a Musical the year after that. Or, a performer winning for Best Actor in a Musical or Play two years in a row.
It's happened at the Oscars but I'm not sure at the Tonys...Maybe for director or choreographer?
In 2003 jack obrien won a best director of a musical for hairspray and the in 205 he won best director of a play. Also joe montello won best director of a play in 2004 for take me out and in 2005 then next year won best director of a musical for assassins.
does that make sense?
I want to check but I'd bet a producer has done this as well by winning consecutive Best Musical awards.

Kelli O'Hara will likely be (at least) be nommed two years in a row, for Piazza (Featured) and Pajama Game (Leading).
Stephen Spinella won best Featured Actor and than Best Actor for the same character in ANGELS IN AMERICA, but I'm not sure if it was "back to back".
