no offense DRSislove, and i don't care really what you think of laura, but if you're watching people who breathe correctly and looking at their chests filling with air, you're looking at the wrong thing.
From a purely technical standpoint, people who's chests are rising and falling while they sing are singing incorrectly-you should be looking at the waist/stomach/diaphragm. The first lesson any singer should learn is how to breathe and THAT is where they should be breathing from...
That being said, Laura is a pretty flawless singer, technically speaking...very few in the industry who are her equal as far as technically knowing how to sing goes.
As far as acting goes, it's a personal response. I'm not a fan of Constantine in the role...I think he mugs and takes the show way over the edge of breaking that 4th wall. Laura and Stephen are the only ones who ground the show and keep anything real, emotional and genuine going on while the 80's-bit circus goes on around them. I'm sure Tina did the same...just letting you know you're judging the wrong thing if you're looking at her chest for her breathing.
So why does she miss so many shows if she is a "flawless singer"
I happen to love her voice but she can't seem to sustain it.

That was an interesting review. Thanks for posting that.
Thanks for your review DRSinlove. I always enjoy reading reviews of the Wedding Singer.
I got to see Tina and Kevin as Julia and Robbie and am looking forward to seeing Laura and Stephen doing those roles.
Going at the end of the month.
eww, why would you see this show three times? Once was painful enough.
I can't stop laughing at this.
You obviously have no idea what good acting is.
Laura's voice is superb and her acting in this part is impeccable. She's sweet, caring, funny and has the ability to bring one to tears with her ability to convey heartbreak.
When I saw the show with Tina I relied on the other cast member to keep me awake she was so bland.
Not going back to the theatre?
Too bad. So sad. I'm over it. And, I'm sure they all care.

i am also a supporter of Laura
ive never seen Tina in the role, but Laura was great, in my opinion
she was cute, funny, and has a beautiful voice
Laura was my mom's favorite person in the show, she could not stop raving about Laura
and she was one of my favorite people in it, too
so yeah, i am definitely going to go to the show again to see Laura and the rest of the talented cast!
:)
Like I said before, if someone is gasping for air, they obviously don't know how to breathe.
I never said she was bad singer, in fact I said she was good singer, but just had some breathing issues.
And for the acting, we all have different opinions on the role.
Laura has never gasped any time I've seen the show.
Her breathing techniques allow her to add more power to her notes than Tina ever could. When I saw Tina in the role her voice was so timid and her notes would trail off.
Laura delivers her notes with power and pitch. She is possible one of the best female vocalists on Broadway right now.
And her acting is top notch.
I brought a girl to see the show with Tina and she left unimpressed. When I finally coaxed her into going back to see it with Laura...the moment she walked out of the theatre she said: "Now, that's how that role is supposed to be played."
We all have different opinions, but there were 10 other people in the SR section who I talked to who said "Wow, I'm still a Tina fan."
So, I'm not alone on this one.
And when I left the theatre all I could here was buzz about "How great that Laura girl was."
So, neither am I alone in this.
I'll stick with the twice TONY nominated actress.
We all have different opinions, and I was simply stating mine.
EDIT: Its not like she was nominated for this role, was she?
Maybe she just needs some time to get back into the swing of everything. I don't know, I'm not her so I can't speak fo her. I never said she was just awful, she just didn't amaze me.

And there was buzz about how great Tina was in the role. Her Julia's gotten lots of raves. She's a very fine actress and has more emotion in her pinky. Stephen was very lucky to play opposite her and I can't wait for them to be together again. She's pure sunshine.
Never said she isn't a fine actress.
But in this role? :snore:
I'm just sayin'...
FOAnatic- Are you saying that Tina's acting was not up to par?
I could not disagree with you more.
I'm saying I've seen the show a number of times and there's no contest between Tina and Laura.
Laura is not Laura on the stage. She's Julia. Everything about her. Her sweetness, her comic timing, her quirkiness and even her relationship with her mother (in the few short scenes she shares with Adinah) and even with Rita just flow so naturally. I feel like I'm really watching a girl open up in front of me.
With Tina...I knew it was Tina. Her comic timing was forced and I hardly laughed. All her scenes just fell flat for me. Which is funny because I've loved her in other things I've seen with her. But with this show, I just don't believe it. She's a fine standby...but it's obvious why she's the standby.
This is not meant to diss her in any way, so don't take it as such. She's a sweet girl and a fine performer. But I've seen the show enough times with both of them to know which one I think is superior in the role.
Are you sure you didn't confuse Laura with Tina and vice versa? I'm just sayin'...
Again, I could not disagree with you more.
all this petty quibbling over who's acting was or was not up to par is pointless, the show is not up to par. The book is a joke, the score is forgetable, and well, for the most part it's all just flash and trash.
excuse me for everyone who doesn't like Laura! I have a copy of soon after it opened and she did amazing... no one is better than she is, even Tina. I love Tina, but i have t say she is not the best one for this role. DRSisLove, when you saw Laura she should not have done the show because she still wasn't well enough to make the show good. But I do understand what you think and say because if I were you and didn't have a copy of the show before she got sick or never saw her do a performance then I get what you are saying... but Laura is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
"She's a fine standby...but it's obvious why she's the standby."
Miss Turner...
Phantom...give me a break.
I'm giving you an adult view of my opinions and you just can't seem to register that I have a different view point than you.
I'm sorry but it's true.
You're absolutely childish.
My goodness, people...we have two different actresses, with two different interpretations of the role. Some people prefer one actress; some the other. It isn't objective, it's subjective. Why not just accept the difference of opinion - since nobody will change anybody's mind - feel fortunate that two talented actresses have played the role, and move on?

we sure do argue about Laura a lot on here... :P
FOAnatic- It's fine you preferred Laura, but when you trash Tina I'm going to stick up for her because I think she's absolutely wonderful in the role. You don't see me trashing Laura. I've only said positive things about Tina.
Actors who originate roles are lucky. They automatically have a following. Standbys, understudies and swings need to prove themselves (some never do). Tina proved herself each and every night and captured the hearts of many during her tenure as Julia. Hey, if Tina sucked there wouldn't be this controversy. I'm just sayin'...

ditto! i LOVE her isntincts that she has on stage AS julia! it is SOO ADORABLE! plus shes a frickin sweetheart! LAURA IS JUST AMAZING!!
and im sorry, but i watched a vid of tina singing someday and as soon as i heard a country accent, i was dont with that. she was a good singer, but a country accent does not fit the role. does she actually do that for the show?
