Eek! So basically I should sit back and enjoy New Jersey? LOL Seriously, thank you for all the tips and advice. I'll definitely be leaving the car at the hotel and there's a bus close by the hotel that goes to the Port Authority. Supposedly a 10 minute ride. (yeah right) I'll give myself a couple of hours leeway.

Believe me, if I could have made this trip any other time I would have.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the info. :) Updated On: 8/21/04 at 12:19 PM

make sure you head down the west side highway as there will be plenty of protesters there. they're generally stupid and will mill about close to the highway thinking that cars will stop for them because they are carrying anti bush signs. at about 55 or 60 you should be able to plow through at least three or four dozen before the momentum and the carcasses of the dead slow you down. that of course all depends on the kind of car you're driving. if you can get a nice full size pick up or panal van and load it up with something to give it weight you should be able to slaughter over a hundred with the momentum of a full vehicle.

man there's nothing so satisfying as the sound of bone and wood crunching under your wheels, hearing the screaming of the wounded and dying and knowing that you have made the evening news just by wasting a few democraps.

goose, gander and all that rot, of course. plus i needed a little work on my descriptive sentences. it's still a little weak, but i think it conveys some decent imagery (decent of course being completely subjective).

The city has reported that there are likely to be sporadic street closings AND subway station closings in mid town, depending on events, etc.

Also, there will be protestors around so you'll want to think about going into those areas of town where the 'cages' are so you don't get caught in the people jam of cops, et al

I guess I'd ask WHY are you going into the city during the RNC when most people are running the other way?

I'm sure that no one is really serious about the violence and though I don't approve of really WICKED violent humor I think I can see that the people on this board are JUST kidding.

If you live in NYC or the surrounding area you will be hearing a lot of this humor during the RNC. No one is looking forward to the traffic jams, media attention and loss of revenue (and please DON'T say that the city will make money on this because that's a joke that's already been debunked by every paper in the area) so you'll excuse us if we are a bit frustrated. We just want it over.

And I for one, happen to think that the city has been through enough after Sept 11th and doesn't need the extra terrorism levels and threats or any of the other nonsense. Why they didn't go to Dallas is beyond me.

The dates of the convention are Aug. 30-Sept. 2. There are speakers every night, but the Vice President speaks on Sept. 1 and the President on Sept. 2.
