Posted: 5/19/07 at 9:31pmWalking by the TKTS line this afternoon, I noticed the woman who plays Toby handing out discount flyers. I couldn't decide if it was odd or a good strategy (though she wasn't saying she was in it).

Posted: 5/19/07 at 9:42pmIt reminds me of Hugh Panaro saying how when "Side Show" was trying to survive, he and Alice Ripley would go out to TKTS and try to talk people into coming to see it.

Posted: 5/19/07 at 9:46pmI respect them so much more that they are out there trying to drum up business. Better than some shows that are just letting their productions slip into oblivion and not do anything to stop it!

There was one of the choir members on the other side. I was walking by on my way to the theatre for viewing #2, and backed him up when he was talking with some people. I helped him convince at least 6 people to go see it.
It is just amazing.
Oh yeah. Their strategy was actually really good. The flyers they were handing out had coupons for half-price (not ideal to sell your theatre at half-price, but better than a mostly empty theatre), so they were marketing it by talking it up, and giving people the flyers to go right to the box office. Benifiting the ticket buyer in two ways... 1) No more standing in the TKTS line and 2) No ridiculous TKTS service fee. I did see some other people leave the TKTS line and go to the theatre box office, so maybe it'll work...at least get some word on the street out.

Posted: 5/20/07 at 8:42amHaving worked the TKTS line for other shows, I give the cast a huge amount of credit. Handing out flyers to people who rush by looking to get half priced tickets to Wicked, Lion King and Jersey Boys is frustrating and humbling.
