Courageous-Tarragon Theatre

A new year and a new play. A gay City Marriage Officer at City hall refuses to marry two men because it conflicts with his Catholic beliefs. Interesting. It remains interesting, funny, and sad for the whole first act as some really good actors explore what "rights" mean and how much they cost.

And then, after intermission, the main characters in the first act are abandoned, and it's as if a new play starts. Bizarre! The second act is funny and sharp, but bears almost no relationship to the first act. I felt cheated. Rats!

Coach Bob knew it all along: you've got to get obsessed and stay obsessed. You have to keep passing the open windows. (John Irving, The Hotel New Hampshire)
