LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Craig Bierko is in negotiations to step into the ring with Russell Crowe for "Cinderella Man," a boxing movie to be directed by Ron Howard.
"Cinderella" tells the tale of real-life heavyweight boxing champ Jim Braddock, to be played by Crowe. During the 1930s, Braddock was an ageing boxer who made a comeback while trying to provide for his family during the Depression. Bierko would play Max Baer, Braddock's toughest challenger, a world heavyweight champion renowned for having killed two men in the ring.
Bierko's credits include "The Thirteenth Floor", "The Long Kiss Goodnight", "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and the recent "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star".
Howard is also producing the Universal/Miramax project, along with Brian Grazer and Penny Marshall. The script is being written by Akiva Goldsman, who won an Academy Award for his work on "A Beautiful Mind," as did Crowe, Howard and Grazer.

That is great news! I'd still rather have him on Broadway, but hey - at least I get to see him!
Hope he can take a punch. Crowe's a notoriously obsessive actor and I imagine he'll take the fights at as real a pace as possible.
Renee Zellweger is also attached to this project.
He is gorgeous.
Just dreamy. I also saw him at Playwrights Horizons earlier this year what was the name of that show where they taped each other?
I loved it but I am blanking out on the name.
Craig had a small role. I think he is the sexiest man on Broadway.
I once was sitting at a diner and he was a few tables away.
I was with a friend who never heard of him. I was sort of staring at him she said what is wrong he then walked over and I said hi. He said hi and I almost lost it.
Very handsome.

Corine, I couldn't agree more. His eyes make me melt.
John, Craig's a pretty big guy (6'5" I think) and I think he can handle RC.
Lucky, so do I.
I don't normally look forward to this kind of movie, but I can't wait to see this one. I hope it all pans out.

No. Of course Bierko and Crowe won't play lovers. If you are kidding in which I hope then okay--I get your joke but if you are not, there is no way this would happen with a Russell Crowe vehicle.
I can't wait to see Craig Bierko in a decent film. This role sounds like it's meant for him and he is THE quintecential actor. Such talent. And such a presence!! Just wait everyone..just wait in a year or two..this guy's gonna blow everyone away. He will be a household name in the future.
