The theatre school I'm a part of may be doing Crazy for You next year and I thought I ask what people's thoughts were on ti rather than searching endlessly for information. What's the casting like and is it a good show?

It's a great show but has to be done well. Bad productions can be fatal.
it is a very good show with some very funny moments. there's a good amount of roles that have solos and also a bunch of chorus people. very good show.

I hope you have a leading man who can really sing, tap dance, and do broad comedy. It's a killer role.
And in general, I hope you have a good choreographer (or someone who is good at stealing choreography from the video!) The show is all about the dancing!
There are a few good comic supporting roles that don't require much dancing, but most of the cast has to tap.
This is one of my favourite musicals of all time. It is complete with all aspects of musical theatre. If it is done well, it will be fantastic. In order for it to be fantastic you NEED to have a great cast that can fulfill all of dancing, singing, and of course, acting. I would recommend getting your hands on the CD, usually they have it at the library. There is some fantastic music in there.
Paul LW and I were dance partners in Crazy for You about 7 years ago.
Our set was PHENOMENAL.
The acting and singing were pretty good.
We had effing brilliant choreography.
There are about 3 or 4 good roles in each gender.
And there is potential for a huge chorus.
I think our cast was around 60 or 70 people.
This show could really go either way.
Of all the shows I've ever been in EVER, I am proudest to have been a part of that one, even though I was only a lowly freshman dancer.
Good times.

This is an absolutely wonderful show, I did it a few years ago.
It's a romantic comedy with A LOT of dancing. You need a female lead with a great voice, and a male lead with great voice, charisma, and one who can TAP DANCE. Plus there are all the follies girls (tap dancers) and cowboys. It's an amazingly fun show to perform and watch, and plenty of dance opprotunities if you're into that.
doooo it!

I LOVE that show. When I was little that was the one part I always wanted cause Polly could sing, dance and act. I love the music:) Lucky You!!
Talk about a great show! It's one of the best shows around.
That show inspired us to make shirts that said:
"Save a horse. Ride a Cowboy."
Thanks everybody for your input...I really hope we do it next year!
saw some of the show at the performing arts library. it was directed by mike orckrent and susan stroman did the choreography...i loved it

i'm just gonna say it's my absolute favorite show that i have ever been in (did it last summer). it's got excellent music (who DOESN'T love gershwin hits?) and the choreography (assuming you're doing the original choreography or at least a modified version of it) is totally fun.
for those of you who have been in the show... i'm sure you'll all agree that "shuffle step, shuffle step, shuffle step step step, shuffle heel, shuffle heel heel, shuffle ball-change, clap" and etc will stay with you for a LONG time :)

Directed it twice at my school. Just a lot of fun...very flexible show...silly plot and plastic characters....as for specific female casting...The lead Polly has to sing and dance....The vamp part Irene is a show stealer. "Naughty Baby" in Act II can knock those socks off.
Other female roles are pretty utility and steroetypical..The mother, lead dancer Tess, and dumb blonde Patsy. Patricia Fodor is a chunky Englishwoman with a back pack....but even if you wind up in the chorus....its great fun!!
