Okay...I just had this ridiculous thought while watching that PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION of an Oscar production number again.

I saw Beyonce singing that line from Chicago...
And I thought...
Wouldn't she make an awesome Velma?

honestly, as much as people may doubt her, she has really shown her talents, and I think she might be a good Velma too!
And, at first I dreaded the idea of her as Aida, but I think she could pull it off. Give me crap too, but she really has grown and shown/proved her validity as a singer

I personally think Beyonce is too good for Aida... I think that show sucks.

At any rate, Beyonce is a terrific dancer and she can actually sing well live (unlike seemingly every pop star today). She's a pretty solid actress. I'd pay to see her in a show like Chicago...

She definitely can sing, but I'd have doubts about her being able to do 8 shows a week. And after seeing her in Dreamgirls, I’d have extremely low expectations about her acting.

I thought the musical number at the Oscars was staged brilliantly. I just don't agree with the choices of songs to include in that medley. A big 'WTF!?'

I think Beyonce can pretty much make anything her own and work her magic. The question is a) can she make herself believable into said role? and, b) can she act said role?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

"she can actually sing well live"

then why does she continue to lip-synch?
not saying she isn't good live, but still...

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

Pirag - I was hoping you'd suggest ALICE RIPLEY. Not Beyonce.
