Hoping to see the Crucible this month, but have heard that the soundtrack can be overwhelming and that some of the actors are very quiet, to the point that it is hard to hear them, which would intimate that closer is better. Also that in some of the extreme side seats that lighting glare from the windows can make it hard to see.
Right now looking at seats close to the stage but on the sides (RORCH B2 or LORCH C5) or further back (CORCH M104 or LORCH M1 - an aisle seat so maybe a bit more comfortable if the seats are tight?).
Has anyone who's seen it felt a preference for right vs left orchestra, or if the view from further back is better than close but on the side? Was it difficult to hear from further back? Never been to this theatre, and would prefer to be close, but not if it means a poor view of any important scenes...

Left orchestra. If you sit far to the right, you can't see the door through which they enter, which is on stage left. And yes, they're quiet and not amplified.
I didn't have any of the problems you heard about, and I sat far left in the mezzanine my first time and far right in the orchestra my second time. I preferred far left because from that point you see where the actors enter/exit.

I sat in the orchestra, house right, and loved it because for some reason the actors do spend a lot of time close to the door, stage left. You may miss seeing the door itself but the actors hang out in that area, where you can see and hear them very closely and clearly. The first few rows would be great.
It can be hard to hear the actors from time to time...so the closer the better!
