Do they plan to put this across the street from "HAIRSPRAY"?
"Hi, I have tickets to the John Waters musical.."
"which one?"
hehe
Hairspray is incredible but somehow, I see CRY BABY being almost the exact same show. I love this movie so much too...but if this gets done, I bet the next project would be SERIAL MOM the musical.

I saw Cry-Baby as a musical more than I did Hairspray when that first started getting produced...needless to say I'm delighted! The movies are definitely different.

THIS is GREAT news...
First, that a directors cut DVD is on the way (this film has 2-3 versions that were released..The US version is missing 1-2 production numbers and numerous scenes)
Second: ...it's not as nice or as sweet as HAIRSPRAY...and it's music is based on the rock music of the early 1950's....the score will have to be rock-a-billy....which is GREAT! and could be a first for Broadway!
It has numerous supporting parts that could give a ton of actors a space to shine in..with names such as:
Ramona Rickettes
Uncle Belvedere Rickettes
Hatchet-Face
Toe-Joe Jackson
and..
whoever lands the role of "Cry-Baby" Wade Walker, is gonna have major stardom thrust in his lap...
The only thing I won't like is if the book is changed too much and they get rid of lines such as:
Wanda's mother: Let's all put on a hat and learn something about a foreign culture!
Pepper: My brother wouldn't touch your titties with a ten foot pole. He likes his women bad, Lenora, not cheap.
Cry-Baby: You got it Allison. You got it RAW!
Hatchett-Face: Sometimes stuck-up old ladies get cut.
is in the court room "your honor..my i please take my daughter the *uck home" lolol... however, i do smell a new role and chance for James Carpinello in a waters show. Even marissa in rickis role in this... annie golden could be adorable as the white trash grandmother.
Jen Cody for Hatchet Face!
Can I just state for the record that I love John Waters' films. That's all I wanted to say LOL and Cry Baby is my favorite one.

Ofcourse Hairspay the Movie's great but Cecil B. Demented was actually very entertaining!
and ofcourse, everyone's favorite, Pecker!
Everyone's favorite? LOL, speak for yourself, robactor- I prefer Waters' early and best works-Female Trouble, Pink Flamingos, Multiple Maniacs. The newer stuff is all whitewashed for Hollywood.
As for Crybaby, well, I don't see it as a great theatre piece, but we'll see. I'll probably have the same problem with it that I have with Hairspray. Instead of the real rock n roll music of the soundtrack, we'll have new music, written to 'sound authentic'. I realize that they aren't permitted to use the music from the film, so I'm just being picky here!
Poor hatchet face (the actual person who played the role). I've never seen quite a face, makeup notwithstanding!

ok, sorry I might be speaking for myself, and Hatchett face, yah whatever happened to her?
This is going to be a great show! My friend and I were so surprised when we found out Hairspray would be a musical, and we thought "Why couldn't they do Cry-Baby!?" And now! WOO!
I get chills just thinking who will be singing "Please, Mr. Jailer!" It's going to be the best show!!! And Johnny Depp was in the movie, which makes it get a rating of A+++! Let's just hope the show is as great (I know it will be!)

i think it will be fine, but it's SOOOO grease, and I think they actually DO make fun of it, with the greaser lovin the pure virginal girl and the side characters too much resemble the pinks and greasers of GREASE, i dunno...
My favorite scene from the film: In the jail cell. Willem Defoe playing the ultimate redneck warden with the too-tight shirt, Johnny Depp singing the fabulous 50's doo wop tune "Cry Baby Cry" with the other cellmates doing backup. Priceless. I heard that Depp did his own singing. If so, he was marvelous~
He was marvelous and gorgeous!
James Intveld provided the vocals for Johnny Depp in Cry-Baby.

Definitely a great idea to make this one into a stage musical!!! The article says the show will get a new book and music, but it would be a shame not to get to see "Please Mr. Jailer" on stage.
Best line from the movie..."Look left, look right....good teenagers!" - Patty Hearst
Second best "You traded me for a milkmaid??" - Tracy Lords
