Just read this from Variety...
Oh well...
"The 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle has delayed the pre-Broadway tryout of the tuner adaptation of John Waters' "Cry-Baby" because the production could not lock in a Broadway theater for an immediate transfer to Gotham.
The Seattle run originally was set for Feb. 13-March 4, but the new musical now looks likely to land on the 2007-08 slate at the regional. Theater hosted tryouts for another tuner based on a Waters movie, "Hairspray," as well as "The Wedding Singer."
Due to an overheated Broadway housing market that has multiple shows clamoring for an available venue, "Cry-Baby" was unable to guarantee a Gotham slot for next spring and so decided to push back its preem.
Based on the 1990 Waters pic about forbidden love between a square and a greaser in the 1950s, "Cry-Baby" has songs by Adam Schlesinger, of the pop group Fountains of Wayne, and David Javerbaum, a writer on "The Daily Show." Book is by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan ("Hairspray").
Commercial producers attached to the project are Adam Epstein, Allan S. Gordon, Elan McAllister and Brian Grazer.
"Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story" will replace "Cry-Baby" in spring in the 5th Avenue season."
