It was anticipated that the Cumber community might not understand theater etiquette, and it seems to be coming to pass. I am curious about the measures that will be taken to identify and evict those who are recording. If it is successful, can it be used everywhere? Just hoping.

I hope they do stop people taking pics/recording as from my personal experience at the Barbican, they have been terrible at doing so when ever ive been.

The last time i was there i saw Hugo Weaving in Waiting for Godot and there was a pair of women in their late 30s 4 rows in front of me taking pics all through the show. You would have thought they would have some sort of idea about theatre etiquette at that age. I can sort of understand teenagers doing it, but not grown women!

I really hope that's true about the Barbican getting devices, because my experience here has been awful. Ushers seem to not give a crap about anything happening. At King Charles III in the very very front of the mezz, the guy next to me took a phone call. No one stopped him. That's actually the least offensive thing of the past year I can recall right now.

Devices to do what, exactly? People will bring in all sorts of electronic gadgets with them (and just about every single body will have a cell phone on them). They won't ask people to check in their phones, will they? (I have been to a concert that actually did that and barred phones from entering the auditorium).

I think theatres are sending out mixed messages. It's like Please join us on Facebook, Twitter and Our Web Site but do not photograph in the theatre.

In my day when I walked 10 miles to school photos were reserved for family gatherings and vacations because it was expensive to get film developed. Now people take pictures of their every move and mundane action. It is a different world.

I do think some will respect Cumberbatch and it is good for stars to speak out.

It seems to be a pretty big stretch to think they are encouraging you to do that DURING the show, though.
