Just got back... really enjoyed it !! Had heard that the second act is much better than the first act, and while that might be true, due to the court scene (which is hysterical), the first act is also very funny !!!
Glad we got to see Richard Dreyfuss ! He is excellent in this role. I like Richard Kind, but I dont know how he will fit here. As much as we liked Dreyfuss, we didnt like Eric Stoltz. The role of Simon Able is very meaty, but just dont think he's a great actor. (Would love to see Neil Patrick Harris in this role !!) His timing seemed to be off, and he's a bit robotic. In my opinion, Bob Dishy and Rene Auberjonois steal the show !! They are great in every scene. Rachel York was good, and we didnt dislike Elizabeth Berkley as much as others did.
Bronson Pinchot was out tonight, but Gordon Joseph Weiss was excellent in a great comedic role. Also, Larry Storch as the police chief is hysterical !! Very funny show !!! Audience seemed to love it. Had heard mixed reviews, but would definitely revisit this with the new cast.

I'm with you on every point, Testing. I totally agree about Neil Patrick Harris as Simon Able! He's the first person I thought of way back when they were still looking to cast that role. I think Bronson Pinchot will be very good, bringing much needed energy, dimension, and laughs to the performance. But NPH is more appropriate in terms of age and "innocence."
I saw SLY FOX three times when it was trying out in Boston. I thought Richard Dreyfuss, Rene Auberjonois, Bob Dishy, Bronson Pinchot, and Rachel York were all terrific. I think the critics have been far too rough on this show, and especially on Richard Dreyfuss. He suffered, I think, from Eric Stoltz's lifeless performance. The verbal sparring between Sly and Able has to crackle. Dreyfuss was doing his job, but Stoltz gave him nothing back. That's what hampered the pacing of the first act. In the second act, Dreyfuss as the Judge wasn't dependent upon feedback from Stoltz, so he could go to town. And he did. What a tour de force as Bastardson!
Anyway, I am really looking forward to seeing SLY FOX again in NYC once all the cast changes have been made. I don't know what to expect from Richard Kind, either, but he's a pro, so I'm sure he'll develop an interesting set of characters. He'll be totally different from Dreyfuss, that's for sure. But SF2 could end up being quite good in its own right, especially with Bronson Pinchot and Rachel York switching into the key roles that interact so importantly with Sly. And I can't wait to see what Carol Kane does with Miss Fancy. She has a good 20 years on Rachel York, so her interpretation will be a bit more "worn", I'm sure. It should be loads of fun.

I love Rachel York. She's really talented and was really good in her role as "the whore"... i forget the character's name. I loved her in Kiss Me Kate!
When I bought the tixs, the man at the box office told me Dreyfuss was leaving the 15th, so I made sure I got them before. I saw it Saturday night and really enjoyed it. I also thought Richard Dreyfuss, Rene Auberjonois, Bob Dishy and Rachel York were all terrific. Bronson Pinchot was also out when I saw it. That is strange. Gordon Joseph Weiss was excellent in a great comedic role. I also found Larry Storch as the police chief and Professor Irwin Corey to be hysterical !! I love Dreyfuss and do not how Richard Kind will do. I think Carol Kane will be very funny.

Broadway Lady,
Did they do anything special at the curtain call because it was the last performance for Dreyfuss, Stoltz and Auberjonois?

I think Carol Kane is gonna be great !!!
No, they did not. I was told Dreyfuss' last show was the 15th. I saw it on the 14th. Auberjonois was hysterical.

Thanks, Yankeefan. I'm going to see it next Wednesday, so I'll post my review on Thursday.
And I won't hold it against you that you prefer pinstripes. I'm partial to red socks, myself! What can I say? I'm from Boston.
