If Jessica is the leading lady, then yes, you are correct.
Yes, but Carmen killed her husband.

Yep. He had some sort of obsession with Niki, and wanted to see her perform.

No, Niki didn't perform -- Georgia went on instead. But it was the critic's intent (which is why he bashed Georgia aftewards, if I remember correctly from the LA production) for Niki to go on once Jessica was out of the picture.
I haven't seen the Broadway version yet, but I'm hearing that it's not too different. If I had something to go by, I'd evaluate more for you, sorry.

Ok, in the Broadway version:
The critic kills Jessica to get Niki to perform, since he loves her. The critic also kills the stage manager.
Once Cioffi announces his "engagement" to Niki, he comes forward, holds her at knife point, but of course, it all ends happily with him falling down a trap door. There are no reviews at the end of the NY production.
yes, the critic, Daryl Grady played by John Bolton! [with whom i did a Broadway Classroom workshop with prior to the show completely unaware of the fact he-dunit!]
very cool stuff! =)

I thought the critics intent was to kill the cast members causing the show to fail so that Nikki wouldn't leave Boston and he could be close to her? Didn't he bribe the producer to close the show right before he was killed?
