Cynthia Nixon of Rabbit Hole/Sex & the City ON STAGE! Tony Speculation.

Ms. Cynthia Nixon (star of RABBIT HOLE) was interviewed by NY 1's ON STAGE this weekend. Wonderful interview by Romma Torree. Ms. Nixon seemed so relaxed and natural. I have come to admire her more and more. Not knowing most of her past theatrical work, and only from SEX & THE CITY, I was wonderfully surprised just how Fantastic she is in RABBIT HOLE. She really sparkles with a tight script and feeding off of her other wonderful acting partners (in my eyes Daly's Tony is already in the bag). But what about Nixon? I know there are other actress this season who are certainly worthy...Sarah Jones B&T, and Julia Roberts will no doubt be a force in 3 DAYS OF RAIN...but Im thinking NIXON is just THAT good...and deserves it! With the theatre space starting to thin out I would hope a possible transfer is in the works. The Shoenfeld would be great, or the Cort (really now, how long will they try to milk BAREFOOT for all its worth?)

It's up to the Tony Committee but Bridge and Tunnel will probably be classified as a Special Event which would immediately make Sarah Jones unelegible for a Best Actress in a Play nomination. Cynthia Nixon will surely be nominated, but the category this year looks quite interesting, and there are some political reasons why Julia Roberts is the front-runner before the show even opens. Nixon gives a great performance but she has two factors against her:1)The play itself is not amazing or too special, 2)The reviews singled out Nixon, but most didn't necessarily rave over her performance or over the play.

Nixon does very fine work in RABBIT HOLE, but if I had a Tony ballot, right now I'd vote for Kaye. I'll see if any of the others (especially Jones -- her role is a 40 minute monologue which in her hands may be extraordinary) changes my opinion.

Without having seen any of the other performers (mostly because they haven't opened yet), I would rather not vote at all than give a vote for Kaye. I don't understand what people see in her performance...

Kaye to me was superb but suffered a great deal from a one-joke show that didn't last that long on Bway and wont be around come Tony voting time...I certainly would choose Nixon over Kaye as far as this season is concerned thus far.
