I was in it in 8th grade. The songs were horrendous. I mean "Make your recovery quick, world, we're sick of having a sick world, we're not quite ready to trade you for the moon..." Yeah, not much fun.
Incidentally, my mother saw the production when it was in previews on Broadway and knew it would be a big ol' flop.

Sure "Dear World" the song doesn't have terrific lyrics, but look at some of the other numbers:
"He stood and looked at me. And I was beautiful. For it was beautiful, how he believed in me!"
"There was a time, when garbage was a pleasure when you found the sound of good and plenty gurgling in your drain"
"Chatter Chatter Chatter, there are voices in my pantry, that are wishing me a hearty appetite!"
There are some wonderful songs in the show.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 9:14pmHow can you say it is horrendous? Maybe it was because you were in eigth grade, but I would call it far from horrendous. Did you just sing the title song? It seems the show is a little too mature for an eigth grader.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 10:47pmActually, DEAR WORLD has one of my favorite Herman ballads: "I've Never Said 'I Love You'".
re: 'DEAR WORLD' Memories.#6
Posted: 9/26/08 at 11:25pmWe did the whole show. You should have seen our garbage dance, it was quite...disjointed. And in the grand tradition of boys not being into theatre in high school, the mute and two of the bad guys were played by women. The actor who was supposed to play the garbage man got the chicken pox two weeks before production so the only other non middle school boy in the chorus took on the role.

Posted: 9/27/08 at 4:58amAnd "The Tea Party" is one of my favorite songs from any show. Great overture! I saw it and I always thought the main problem was that it was over produced, every number was a production number, but as usual, Angela was awesome.

Sadly a few numbers from the show are not on the CD
It was a very odd piece as I recall. Lansbury & the score saved it. I think The Spring Of Next Year is a wondeful song.

Is anyone else not the LEAST BIT surprised that Mr. Roxy admires THE SPRING OF NEXT YEAR?
I imagine that is something like his personal manifesto.. set to a catchy tune.

Your angry man routine against me is getting a bit tired now
Give it a rest. Try not to read something political into everything. I guess if I said I liked Tomorrow you would have a witty (not) remark about it.
My personal manifesto indeed. This is quite funny .

Oh sweetie... how can this so-called "angry man" routine of mine be tired? I don't recall ever confronting you before.. I may have... but I doubt more than once.
...but this time was TOO juicy to pass up.
I knew you had no sense of humor.. and this response of yours only supports that point. So while you claim I read politics into everything (?) I propose you read personal attack into everything. Your paranoid routine is getting tired. Give it a rest.
And as for your theory about how I would respond if you posted that you like the song TOMORROW (I'm assuming from the show ANNIE)... we can test that theory VERY EASILY:
Simply respond to this post with the words:
I like the song TOMORROW from ANNIE.
and see how I respond.
Simple.
