All shows close, especailly when not doing enough business
The only one that closed due to poor business was GG. A tough sell from the beginning. A good show but tourists support Broadway & this was not a show for tourists

People should be drifting back in the next hour or so.
Can't wait to hear the stories.

Why use a title of a song not connected to any of the shows that are closing?
I'm going to change my screen name in recognition of this dark, dark, day. I will hereby been known as GreyLizzieBelleLee.

I felt that song title was a rather nice description for the day at hand.
I didn't want to name a song after one show, leaving the other three out.
BUT if I would have, it would have been called DRIFTING AWAY.
But I like DIVIDING DAY better.

Posted: 7/29/07 at 7:07pmGod. We have at least one thread for each show, AND at least one other that encompasses all four. Does yours have some special quality that I seem not to have picked up?

I started this one before the other four had popped up, and I thought we could just compile all the fabulous stories into one.
Obviously, emcee, not.

Posted: 7/29/07 at 7:17pmThere were other threads at 8 o'clock this morning. You started this at 2:28 p.m.

yeah batb last show was at 6 tonight.
It was a shock to me when i heard batb was closing today when they announced it back early this yr end of jan or begininng of feb. it was huge news story from tv to our newspapers. i was watching nbc today show and at the bottom of the screen the marquee said goodbye to batb and gg only. batb was the only tourist show.

Most everyone who saw one closing show this afternoon went to either Gypsy or Beauty. Theater-junkie-ism at it's finest.
According to someone on ATC, the Grey Gardens closing was "a three tissue box performance."

Oh, I wish I could have been there. I would have been crying as well.
What time was the GYPSY performance?

Back from Grey Gardens
Don't know how to review it.
Audience was CRAZY
Christine got a standing ovation at the beginning of Act 2
Scott Frankel (sp?) made a speech after & everyone came on stage (Michael Greif, etc)
I'm sure more people will post more details later.
AMAZING show
