Murphy recently did a workshop/reading of DESSA ROSE the new Ahrens/Flaherty show with La Chanze and Raul Esparza. I hear it was great.

Lola- Catherine Zeta Jones could be good. I want a blonde for the role, though. How about Jane Krakowski? I think she's pretty popular in the movie role. She's pretty well-known in the Broadway and movie communities.

I like VOICEANTH's movie casting in the other thread the best still.

Young Joe: Taye Diggs (or my alternate, Wayne Brady)
Applegate: Jim Carrey (or my alternate, Mike Meyers)
Lola: Zeta Jones is fine (my alternate was Kidman, i find her sexier)
Old Joe: Eddie Murphy with some aging makeup
Meg: can't remember Voiceanth's (my suggestion, Audra McDonald, in age makeup and then as is for flashbacks "as Joe still sees her" to match Young Joe)
Sister: (my suggestion Queen Latifah, or maybe Whoopi)
Gloria: hadn't thought about it, but Christine Baranski seems a natural to me

then for fun the cast of TAKE ME OUT as the Yankees. And for you LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN fans, either Hanks or Rosie for the manager of the Senators.

Applegate: Jack Nicholson (kudos to whoever suggested that first)

Gloria: Andrea McArdle (has there been a more thrilling moment in a modern musical than her shiver inducing NYC in ANNIE?)
