Dan Fogler out of Spelling Bee?

I was just reading Barrett Foa's blog and he mentions his friend Todd Buonopane is going on as Barfee for 3 weeks:

"Todd Buonopane is taking over the role of William Barfee in THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE on Broadway for three weeks (maybe more). He'll be on starting Tuesday, October 25th through at least Sunday, November 13th."

Not that I don't doubt Todd will be great (I mean he was adorable in that little video the Spelling Bee standbys did) but anyone know why Dan is going to be out for so long?

Perhaps his foot needs a rest?

Whoa, Dan hurt his foot?

Isn't Sara Ramirez supposed to be having some sort of foot or ankle problems, too?

Weeeeeeeeeeeeird.

But seriously, that sucks...I hope he's OK.
Does anyone know if it's broken or just sprained or what...?

Maybe he's taking a vacation? Up until now he hasn't even missed a show...
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Well if his foot is really hurt, I don't think taking time off from the show to heal really constitutes "a vacation."

Anybody know what happened?

re: Dan Folger out of Spelling Bee?

The whole "foot needs a rest" thing is related to the fact that Fogler's character has a "magic foot" that helps him spell.

Probably just going on vacation though. Everyone in Spelling Bee deserves one.

This is so sad; the foot thing was a JOKE!
In the show the method that he uses to spell is called "The Magic Foot" it is when you spell out the word using your foot on the ground. If you still need help watch the TONY awards you see it there. I think if comes exactly after the award for best score.

It's F-O-G-L-E-R
Dan was out last Sat. because he injured his non spelling foot. Jose was also outI was surprised no one posted about Ttodd's debut. Jose was also out. Dan was back in next day.
Prior to that Dan had never missed a performance.
He has gotten permission from Stone to make a movie during the time off and will return.

I saw Todd go on as Mr Panch at the end of August and he did a fabulous job...having seen Jay Reiss 2 times prior, I think Todd did amazing. The suit they put him in was even uglier than Jay's usual one if thats even possible...lol

If its a vacation, it's a well-deserved one:) I heart Dan Fogler.
There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

Lisa Yuen was on for Deborah Craig as Marcy last night. She was great, was it her first time on? I know the understudies at Spelling Bee haven't had a lot of opportunities to go on, because of that cute little video they had.

I would LOVE to see Todd go on, thanks for the info! I saw him in Godspell in 2001 & loved him.

re: Dan Folger out of Spelling Bee?

nope, it wasn't Lisa's first time on. She's gone on many times before. From what I've heard, Deborah is prone to call out at the last minute rather frequently, giving few people much advance notice.

ShuQ, it took me a while to understand your comment. i get it now, lol

re: Dan Folger out of Spelling Bee?

As Barfee would say---It's Barfay and for God's Sake----It's Fogler--Excellent example of life imitating art
and if Celia can be hypenated--maybe Dan should be

He actually did hurt his non-spelling foot in a sports injury and was advised to rest last Sat. Todd went on for him for that show. Dan returned on Sunday. His foot is now fully recovered. The foot is now a non-issue... Dan is a real trouper...And as others have reported up until that injury had not missed one performance since the show was in it's original Crepuscule form. He may have the best attendance on Broadway.

re: Dan Folger out of Spelling Bee?

When he is in the show, does he come out for autographs between performances on weekends?

re: Dan Folger out of Spelling Bee?

Yes---As others have reported. Dan comes out the real stage door on the side--And signs and takes pictures with everyone who asks.
It takes him a little longer to come out than the other cast--but if you are patient--you will definitely catch him
