re: Danny Boyle directs My Fair Lady?

I loved Daldry's direction in THE HOURS. It was his incredibly pretentious take on THE READER that I couldn't really stand. I think he could do a wonderful job with the material but I'd also love to see what Danny Boyle could do with it.
Unfortunately, Keira Knightley seems like a given by now. Emily Blunt is such an inspired choice for the part, I would have loved to see her star in this film. She can act circles around Knightley.

"Why not" indeed!

But in reply to eris(something) in respect of link to "confirmation" that Keira Knightley has been officially cast, it wasn't confirmation. It was a quote re presumption, not anything official. And for all that there seems to be so much presumption that it seems unavoidable, all that has ever been officially confirmed (to my knowledge) is that she was in talks. Wishful thinking to some extent on my part as well there, of course, because until it is actually official, it is still not a certainty, and I would really rather see Emily Blunt do it. But then she hasn't been officially mentioned in any respect at all.

I can't say I know much about Boyle although I did see Slumdog...what happened to Stephen Daldry?

And as far as Hugh Laurie, he would be a good Doolittle.

"Singing under the influence helped Keira Knightley ace her audition for the upcoming movie remake of My Fair Lady."

"And so the actress, 23, will star in the much-discussed remake of the 1964 musical movie, playing the Cockney flower girl turned society princess, played onscreen by Audrey Hepburn"

"While My Fair Lady will mark Knightley's musical debut, it isn't her first time singing onscreen. She also sang in the recent biopic The Edge of Love."

All of the quotes above have key words such as "aced", "will star", and "will mark". If the author of this article did not have confirmation words such as "could" or "may" would have been used instead.

Here the use of the word "set" also implies that the role is, indeed, Knightley's

Knightley and Thompson are the only two fixed things about this movie. (Well, that and Cameron Mackintosh producing, I think.) Of course, if pre-production goes on for long enough and Knightley becomes busy and someone else catches the producers' eyes, yes, theoretically, someone else could be hired to play Eliza. It's just not terribly likely.

Who's everyone's dream pick for Pickering? Freddy? Alfred Doolittle? Mrs. Higgins? (I call Julie Andrews for that last one, but that's just me.)
