Ok, you know the kind of reviews I write... nothing highly detailed and in-depth, so just reminding you about that.
I was fortunate enough to go to both Mary Bond Davis' final performance and Darlene Love's first performance. Mary did an excellent job. You can tell she put her all into the performance. She will definitely be missed!
I was very anxious to see Darlene go on. I didn't know much about her beforehand, but from what I heard, she is a very talented performer. When she stepped out on stage from behind the beads, the first thing I noticed was that she is much shorter than Mary. I found that entertaining. However, I LOVED her performance. Her voice is very unlike Mary's, but she still did quite an amazing job with Motormouth's big songs, especially "I Know Where I've Been." There were a few moments where you can tell she was still learning what to do as far as choreography, but that will come with time.
Again, not the best at posting reviews, but what you really should get out of this is that there was no error here in finding Mary's replacement. I highly recommend catching Darlene in the role. If she was this good her first performance, I don't doubt she'll have a problem adjusting to the role. Go see her!!
