It's wierd watching this movie unfold, step by step. I've been tracking it since broadway.com announced it last spring. Now it's official.

unlike Chicago, this is gonna be a movie with 2 extremes: youll either love it or hate it. theres not gonna be a happy medium.

i think she can sing, she was valerie in Josie and the Pussycats, i think she was pretty good

Yankee, how do you know this is going to be a movie like that? You can't say that before it'd even began production - and you have little basis to say anything at this point. I think this movie will be amazing. I would have liked to have a different director, but with Bernie Telsey casting and most of the OBC intact, they will not let the heart and soul of the original experience (and Jonathans vision) escape this movie. I'm certain of that - it's too special to all of them.

This time, I'll back you up. Honestly, I hated the idea of this movie for a very, very long time. Now that things are slowly falling into place, I'm starting to be more excited about it, but I'm still kind of skeptical about certain things. Knowing what I do, I'm planning on certainly giving it a fair chance, but I don't think I'll love it like I do the show, though I do think it has potential. For that reason, I'm planning to put aside my reservations and keep an open mind... and I'm expecting to find that "happy medium" with it.

Just sos you know, it was the incredibly gifted Kay Hanley, once the lead singer of Letters to Cleo and now a solo artist, did the songs (including the vocals) for the Josie and the Pussycats movie. I guess as long as an actor is moving her lips on the big screen and there are vocals on the soundtrack, people really will fall for the movie magic.

Kay Hanley only did the vocals for Rachael Leigh Cook.

That's what I thought too, (and I still have a nagging feeling you're right, and said so yesterday) but if you listen carefully in the movie (and I think the soundtrack but don't quote me on that), the background voices aren't only Kay's. I thought the same thing as you the other day and then I went back and listened. (Did I just admit to owning the JatP CD?)

Lemme know if you know for sure. This has been bugging me since yesterday!

I agree with whoever said singing in JatP is far different than singing Mimi (why do we have 2 threads on this, btw???), but yeah, erinrebecca - Bernie Telsey knows his SH*T!

according to some sources (many of which i consider to be reliable) rosario dawson did provide vocals on the "Josie" soundtrack. Kay Hanley provided vocals for Rachel Leigh Cook.

and anyway what's the big deal anyway. even *if* rosario *didn't* sing on the "Josie" soundtrack that does not mean that she *can't* sing.

this is nothing to lose sleep over...

I'm not losing sleep, I was just curious, since I worked on that movie.

And is it bad of me that when you said "Josie soundtrack", my immediate reflex was to admonish you and say "It's a CAST. RECORDING." and then I realized...no, it's not?

I don't think too many of us actually want a new movie. Just a really good video of the OBC of Rent shot from different angles. At least that's what I want.
