Deborah Cox Starts Today!!!

Best of Luck to Deborah Cox!! She begins her run in AIDA tonight!! I can hardly wait to see her on Saturday!!
I have literally dreamed of seeing/hearing her in this role since I first saw the show several years ago!!

This is her first role on Broadway. She's done one movie entitled 'Love Come Down' (really bad movie!).

Though her acting leaves little to be desired, her voice is amazing! It's all good though...I don't know ANYONE that goes to see AIDA for the 'acting' anyway (although many of the cast members truly can act).

Personally, i don't care to see her in Aida. For all i know she could be fantastic so don't get me wrong!I am just tired of this pop invasion that is going on. First Toni, then Michelle, now Deborah? I just think its time to give the role to a "Broadway" actress, or someone who doesnt have stardom already. I know that having these people brings in more tickets - something that is lacking lately - but i still can't stop wishing for someone else.

I am excited about seeing her in Aida. I am glad they are doing stunt casting in this show. Not my favorite peice of theater... but it does give a few recording artists a chance to strut their stuff. This is one show I don't mind the crossover invasion in.

I'm seeing Aida at the Sunday matinee. Perhaps I'll catch her in it. Is she another one who skips those Wednesday/Saturday matinee's...not that it would matter for me.

I'm with TheGirlInTheFrock on this one. I'm soooo sick of this pop/R&B star thing going on with Aida. But I am interested to hear how she is, so if anyone goes, please post!

I too would 'prefer' to see an unknown in the role, unfortunately, the bottom line is ticket sales!! The producers are going to try every stunt they can to sell them. Sad, but true.

And the only matinees show Deborah will be doing are the 2pm Saturday shows.

I enjoy alot of the female "dance divas" -- and I think she will be good in this part.

I agree with TheGirlinTheFrock and Luvtheemcee, this role needs to go to a performer who can encompass the role like it is supposed to be! They need to be more than a nice voice. It's such a strong character and she needs to be portrayed as such!

I saw Deborah in Aida and here is my short short short review. SHE IS BRILLIANT !!!! Closest your going to get to Heather Headley and more on key.

I think that if Deborah didn't directly follow Toni Brazton and Michelle Williams I wouldnt be as pessimistic about her playing the role. Its the not person that i dont like, its the TREND. As i stated in my first post she could be fabulous and if I saw her in it, I would be the first one to admitt it!!

Well with this particular show I don't mind the trend. I think this show is well served by bringing in these R & B singers. The show in itself is mediocre at best ( but entertaining). This stunt casting brings in audiences other than the typical tourists.

I'd just assume have a theater actress of course, but if they are going to hire music people, I think Cox will be better than either Braxton or Williams was. I saw both and... let's just say I wasn't happy. But I think Cox has promise.
