With Book By Eric Idle, Music and Lyrics by John Du Prez and Eric Idle
Directed by Mike Nichols
Recording Scheduled For February at New York’s Right Track Studios
Release Date Spring TBD
January 31, 2005 (New York, NY) - Decca Broadway will record Monty Python’s Spamalot, the new musical lovingly ripped off from the internationally famous comedy team’s most popular motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, at Right Track Studios in New York City on February 7th, with a release date for the original cast recording in the Spring of 2005 to be announced.
Directed by Mike Nichols, Spamalot stars David Hyde Pierce, Tim Curry and Hank Azaria, with book by Eric Idle, and music and lyrics by John Du Prez and Eric Idle.
Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and their quest for the Holy Grail. Previews begin on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th St.) February 14th, with the show opening on March 17th.
John Du Prez and Eric Idle collaborated on the music and lyrics for Spamalot. Aside from his work with Monty Python in films and on TV, Eric Idle has written a West End play, Pass the Butler; three novels, including The Road to Mars, The Rutles - A Mockumentary; and many songs too rude to mention. He has sung opera, acted in movies, appeared on television and recently crossed America performing comedy on The Greedy Bastard Tour. His diary of his 15,000 mile journey by bus will be published by Harper Collins in February 2005. His long awaited sequel Rutles2, “Can’t Buy Me Lunch” will be released by Warner Video in March. There's no saying what he might do next... John Du Prez has composed over twenty feature film scores including A Fish Called Wanda, A Private Function, The Meaning of Life, Personal Services, UHF, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I, II & III and has worked with Eric Idle since 1978.

Can't wait....
....to hear the music and see the show!
Ditto!
Weeeeeeeeeee!
They should include Sara's "Cow Song" as an extra track!!!
and STILL no recording of "La Cage"! D....
Yes, also looking forward to La Cage, Sweet Charity, and All Shook Up (Jenn Gamby and Cheyenne, after all
).
I can't wait!!! I especially want Diva's Lament and You Won't Make It on Broadway recorded.
Sara is lovely! I met her this summer in a WTF Cabaret, and she sang a wonderful rendition of Coffee In A Cardboard Cup! Also was great in Taylor the Latte Boy. Now I'm pumped to see her in this.
I can't wait! I'm going to see the show during my Spring Break!
Can't frickin wait. This is a dream come true. I am a huge Python fan and I love the theater. SO EXCITED!!!

Woohoo!!
I hope they include "The Cow Song" and "Burn Her". Even though they cut them, I would love to hear them again (so would my father, I think, who saw it with me).
*still waiting for the Little Women cast recording*
This looks wonderful though!
Thats pretty presumptuous of them to think that there will be NO changes to the score during previews -- obviously they know exactly how golden their show will be.
Only as presumptuous as The Producers, Hairspray, Jane Eyre, the London Bat Boy, Bombay Dreams (OK, bad exmaple!), all of which were recorded before their official openings. And if things do change drastically, it might give them an excellent excuse to record and release a new album when the show finally makes it over to London . . .
Well I've heard Eric Idle make mention that he plans on releasing a "demo" CD that John Du Prez and himself recorded prior to Chicago. It is to include cut songs that never even made it into the Chicago tryouts and such songs that have been since cut, such as the "Cow Song" and "Burn Her." Last I had heard they had originally planned to release the CD at the souvenir store in Chicago but, Eric then decided to push it back until the OBC recording is released.
