Well it didn't bore me but it could be a little much for someone with no knowledge or interest in Cold War politics in Germany. Having said that, it certainly transcends its subject. It's a very well made play and the metaphor of the divided country/divided self is carried through beautifully. It's a lot of talk but the talk is superb, as is the cast that delivers it.
I saw it in London. The performances were incredible but I was bored. It was very interesting but it felt like going to the spy museum for the third time(don't get me wrong, the spy museum is awesome), just not what I'm looking for when I go to the theatre, more of what I'm looking for if I plan on watching the history channel.
It's a good play, amazingly directed with a pretty stale cast. I was bored out of my mind.
I liked it a lot. There is a note in the Playbill which gives a lot of background. There was also a review on BWW.com, entitled The Complete Idiot's Guide to Michael Frayn's Democracy" which should fill in some blanks if you're not up on your history.

Popularity has very little to do with quality. You should know that.
