Democracy, the Michael Frayn play currently playing the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, will close on April 17. It will have played 173 performances and 17 previews...
wow that's sad that is a great play! I'm glad I got to see it when I did.
Yes - I really thought this play was wonderful - maybe not as great or exciting as other plays on Broadway right now. It's certainly not for everyone and many people think it's a bore, I'm sure. It's really too bad though - I hate to see plays close on Broadway.
Perhaps this will open up the Brooks Atkinson for the commercial transfer of Twelve Angry Men that the Roundabout wants to do -- the Brooks Atkinson is a perfect theatre for the show, very close to the size of the American Airlines. Also, by having Democracy close on April 17th, 12 Angry Men could move in within a few weeks of its May 8th closing -- making sure nobody forgets about it in the interim. This is just pure speculation.
that would be cool since I love 12 angry men as well. Both I thought were amazing plays, with amazing cast's. Yes I am sad that it is closing but if it means (hopefully) 12 angry men can move there for a longer run (and hopefully a tony or two...or more)
