Posted: 5/23/08 at 9:52amThe production suffered from a lack of consistency in approach to Shakespeare. Denzel kept it very low key and modern but he flattened a lot of the heightened language. It was worth seeing - any Shakespeare is - but not particularly engaging.

Posted: 5/26/08 at 1:54pmI saw the production. In my opinion it was less than stellar. I was sitting in mid-orchestra and had a hard time making out a lot of what Denzel said; as it was so quiet. His performance was very flat, but the rest of the cast was amazing- particularly Colm Feore (Don't know if that's spelled right).

Posted: 5/26/08 at 2:25pmI felt that the production was engaging, but ultimately a misfire. Washington was fine.

Posted: 5/26/08 at 5:27pmI will second the rave for Colm Feore. His was the single performance that seemed to capture what was supposed to be going on.

Posted: 5/26/08 at 5:41pmI'm a huge fan of Tamara Tunie. How was she as Calpurnia?

I didn't see it but I saw clips and one of them was in fact Tamara as Calpurnia.
Ew. That's all I can say. Turned me off.

Posted: 5/27/08 at 12:22pmI'll agree about Colm Feore. Not a great or good production. Washington made sure we could all see that he ACTING but wasn't ultimately particularly interesting. The actor playing Marc Antony, who is very very good on OZ, was having what sounded like very bad vocal problems, he was hard to listen to.
