I'm actually trying to find a 'thorough' review of Michelle T. Williams in AIDA. I have been a die hard AIDA fan since I first saw the play in 2001 with Schele Williams (she was INCREDIBLE as AIDA). I have since seen Simone & Toni and would like to see Michelle sometime this weekend. Any info with regards to her performance would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
I saw her and found her to LOOK like Aida, but not SOUND like her at all. She sounds like Macy Gray on helium and delivers her lines with no sense of meaning or timing. I could do without the pop riffs on every single line as well.
I think the show is in desperate need of a new Aida. Even the ads I hear on the radio with her singing Gods Love Nubia.......ummmm no thanks.....sounds terrible. I hear her acting is even worse. But I haven't seen her...this is just going on what I've heard others say..and the radio ad.
There is definitely a way to deliver the line "I'll say one thing for you Egyptians...your thread count is amazing" with some measure of humor. Instead, Michelle feels the need to assert that she'll "SAY one THING FOR you egypTIANS. your thread COUNT is amaZING."
AIDA is a VERY meaningful show full of meaningful lines! I wish they would just audition newbies. There are some amazing people out there that would make an AMAZING Aida...
We all have our opinions of a show, but what you just said is asking for trouble! Instead of just telling us why a show sucks, why don't you tell us why it sucks...
Why would they put talented new comers in a show when they can just put hack, B-list pseudo pop-stars who can't utter a decent line of dialogue, or sing without pop radio riffs? That wouldn't make any sense now, would it?.... Please, the casting for Aida has turned in to the butt of many jokes. So has Rent for that matter. Same formula, same hideous results.
