Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

Since, noone has posted about this show in a few months I was curious if any new information has been verified. The cast looks amazing (LaChanze, Rachel York, Michael Hayden, Norm Lewis) and Ahrens/Flaherty's last show A Man of No Importance remains one of the best things I have ever seen. Any updates?
But I won't live alone in a house of regret.

I haven't heard anything since Hayden was confirmed for the cast. I'm guessing they're just gearing up for previews which start in three weeks.

YAY DESSA ROSE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait!
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Is there a possibility of this moving to a Broadway house at some point? I'd love for them to get publicity and credit for what could be another amazing piece of theatre. Which is something they didn't get for the touching and honest, A Man of No Importance.

They are deep in rehearsals which are going well. Previews start February 17th. Any talk to a Broadway move will have to wait until the show opens and March and they see what the critical and popular response is.

Yeah, I'm just hoping that it's a possibility. It seems to be a bit more accessible to the regular theatregoing public than "...Importance". They certainly deserve another successful show.

The show certainly has the pedigree to move to Broadway. I can't wait for this one!

Color Purple is not until the fall at the earliest. Dessa Rose runs until May 29th (though I suppose it could be extended if it's well-received).

Bravo to Ahrens and Flaherty. They pick such interesting, diverse material.

*crosses fingers for good critical reception for Dessa Rose*

I just bought my tickets online. I'll be there April 2, and I can't wait. Front row seats, too. This should get me through the next couple of months of snow!

re: Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

Tickets during previews are $70, then $75 after the official opening. That's full price through Telecharge. I don't know if any discounts will apply.

re: Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

Do you think discounts will be available at some point?

re: Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

Probably not. The Mitzi is the small off-Broadway space at Lincoln Center and the LCT subscribers by themselves can all but sell out an entire run there even before the few remaining tickets are made available to the general public. I'm a subscriber and if I don't snag my member seats for a show at the Mitzi within the first 48 hours member tickets go on sale, it's happened that my top 5 or 10 dates to go are totally sold out. The last show there, Belle Epoque, almost soldout within days and never offered discounts and considering the cast and creative team for Dessa Rose, I'd be surprised if this run isn't similarly sold.

re: Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

Do you know if I'd be able to get Lincoln Center student tickets to this show? I REALLY want to see this one.

re: Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

So, basically even though it is open-ended you think I should definitely get seats now?

re: Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

It's not open-ended -- it's only scheduled to run three months and set to close May 29th (unless there's an extension). The LCT subscribers could sell that out by themselves. If you want to see it, I would call NOW for tickets.

re: Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

Thanks Margo - The reason I had asked was because it said on Theatremania that it was open-ended. I highly doubted that to be true, they probably just had no closing date posted.

re: Dessa Rose at the Mitzi Newhouse

I would assume it'll extend since it's the last show in the space before summer and nothing is slated to go in there until fall, BUT if you can, definitely try to snag a ticket before the end of the run -- the show sounds awfully promising.
