Diana has been offered a role of Penny Pingleton in Hairspray on Broadway. The play starts in February. (This is still subject to change). After that Diana may join the tour company of a different play. Diana will continue to work on her album. (No release date or further information is available at this time.) A tour for the album is still in the works as well.

How odd! So I went to her site and looked and didn't see that anywhere. Do you have a link? Makes no sense to me--she doesn't fit that role AT ALL in my mind.

Cool! I hope its true. I've heard her live and she is great on stage.

I must say that Diana the popstar going to Broadway is far better than past potentially disastourous attempts at pop-gone-broadway girls (ahem-spitney beers!)

Atleast NY found someone with talent!

I still think there is a place for Clay Aiken on Broadway too. lol but thats just me!

I would prefer to have her sweeping the stage after performances, but yes, she is much better suited for Tracy...

I think she's a little too slim for Tracy now and I've never been a fan of actresses wearing fat suits for the role. Regardless, good for Diana. It looks like her well-received performance in WSS (I expected her to be disastrous but she was actually, gasp!, very good) has led to more work in musicals. Good for her!

yea i was going to bring up the west side story thing. everyone was very skeptical and she was apparently very good. SO even though i also dont really "see" her as Penny, stephaniethestar and everyone really, should give her and anyone for that matter a chance before judging.

Yeah, sounds like a VERY reliable source. Play? What play? I know of a musical that started on Broadway a few years ago, but play? Sounds like a 9 year old wrote that.

i would say maybe penny in vegas, because that starts in febuary but they already cast penny for that production.

Diana had a few shining moments on American Idol a few years back, but I don't see her as Penny either. I think she would make a better Tracy.

If you check it out further, you can see that it's Diana's fan club website and that her and her mom/manager are affiliated with the site. The information posted there is definitely true since it would have come from either her manager or her agent. It only says that she's been offered the role, not that she's going to necessarily accept it. Having said that, she'd be great as Penny. Remember that she apparently did well with West Side Story so I wouldn't be surprised if she did well in this role. She'd be great as Tracy too but she's much too thin for that role.
