Capnhook,
I disagree that Mamma Mia is pure theme park entertainment. And you really can't judge and say a word unless you saw the show for yourself.

I think there was something in the lobby while Cats was still playing, but IIRC it was taken away when the theatre was completely renovated before Mamma Mia came in. I could be wrong, though, I haven't been inside the Winter Garden in years.
CapNHook alreaday saw the touring company of MAMMA MIA..he told me in another thread...that's why he has an opinion about the show.
Well.. I am seeing Mamma Mia tommorow at the Winter Gardens on my Mom's b-day!
Happy Birthday to 'my' Mamma Mia.

Jaystarr - enjoy Mammia Mia. It's one of my favorite shows and a lot of fun. Is your mom going?
Love Mamma Mia! Saw the original cast in London and twice in Chicago. I plan to see it again and look forward to the movie. Fun fun fun show!
Jaystar, can you have a look for the plaque and take a photo if possible.
Thanks
Have fun at "Mamma Mia!" today, jaystarr! I have yet to see the show, but I'm interested in seeing how the upcoming movie will turn out.
Haha, I read it as 'plague,' too.
THE ANSWER is NO.
Cats did not get a plaque at the Winter Garden. I was at the WINTER GARDEN today to see the 2 pm matinee of MAMMA MIA . I looked for that plaque during intermission everywhere & at the lobby and finally I got a chance to ask the House Manager. There was no plaque dedicated for CATS.. sorry
Its an urban legend!

Thanks for that JStar, i just find it really strange that nothing was ever placed at the theatre.
Per HM.
After CATS. They closed & renovated the Winter Garden...they have a plaque commerating CATS as the longest running show....if that's probabbly the one that you guys are referring to? He said.. there was one in the 1st floor lobby. but they removed all that's CATS related stuff like decorations (gigantic trash cans, etc...) around the theater that tranformed the theater into a cat den and the plaque might be one that was removed.
As to a plaque dedicated that CATS have played as a commemoration for permanent installation. There's NONE.

Every time I scroll past this thread I think it says "Did Cats get the Plague." I think that'd also be a pretty cool thread.
CAts should have been put down years ago.
