I finally saw Shuffle Along tonight and i have to say it was a very strange theater experience for me. I kept thinking..... this is a good idea, this has a stellar cast, it has a legendary creative team why don't I like this more.? All I can come up with after thinking about it is that maybe it just isn't ready for Broadway yet.  I know it didn't do an out of town tryout, but I don't know how many readings or workshops it had before opening on Broadway. The book by Wolfe seems like it just isn't fully developed yet....lots of scenes where all the actors argue over the top of each other almost as a filler or adlib, scenes where the dialogue doesn't have a clear objective, a first and second act that don't really gel together in terms of story structure. I didn't think it was an altogether flop, but I certainly didn't think this was ready for the Broadway stage. I think had they had one out of town run they would have learned so much more about what this show is supposed to be...anyone else feel the same?
