Did anyone here attend the second preview screening of Doubt in Manhattan two days ago??

Somone has posted on IMDB that he went to see the film version of Doubt in Manhattan, New York on Monday night of this week. I can find no information on the internet re this and I thought someone else might have seen it.

I remember some poster here once mentioned she attended the first screening and thought the film is very good, especially the acting of Meryl Streep is amazing and Oscar-worthy. It is quite distressing in that this person in the IMDB board says it is Meryl's worst performance ever ("very hammy, with soul") which is quite opposite to the feedback from the first prescreening. He also says P.H.Hoffman's performance is also very hammy and bad.

I like this play very much. I have great expectation for the film version. Does anyone know anything at all about this second screening? or whether this screening really existed or not?

Well that's your first problem. Always expect a film adaptation of a great play to be terribly awful. Then once you see it, you're maybe not as disappointed as you would have been.

But regardless, the movie adaptation of a play is going to be bad. It's a rule. Learn it.

I expect this movie to have great performances but ultimately being pretty unsuccessful in terms of the overall scope.
I also saw DOUBT in a very intimate space, Bobby, and it was just fantastic and incredibly chilling (the famous scene with Mrs.Muller and Sister Aloysious--I know I completely butchered the spelling--had everybody at the edge of their seats and you could've heard a pin drop). The movie, with its idea of "opening it up," has a hard job at being as effective as the play. Plus, may I say, it might just come off as boring.
Streep is perfect for the role (perhaps too obvious a choice?), Hoffman is miscast as hell, Amy Adams is likely to give a fantastic performance like she did in JUNEBUG, and Viola Davis will probably shine. I wonder if the actual script and direction will be able to match the play's impact though.

The last time someone spoke about seeing a preview screening of Doubt, the producers released a statement or story in variety saying there was no screening. So maybe take this with a grain of salt.

If the person who saw the alleged first screening is a BWW user, then there's a bias right there. People who go to see screenings often feel privileged to have seen it before anyone else, which unfortunately makes their opinion extreme. Either "OMG they're SOOO gonna win an Oscar!" or "It was their WORST performance ever and I wanted to leave the theatre!"
