Did anyone see "The Buddy Holly Story" when it was on broadway a few years back. I saw the tour and loved it. Just wondering who saw the broadway production and any thoughts on it.
I think it could even have a bit of a revival.

BUDDY was the first show to go into the Shubert after the 15 year run of A CHORUS LINE there, so it was more than just "a few years back" (more like 15). It received poor reviews and never caught on with audiences, so it only ran for 6 months before closing. It was way too big of a flop to ever be revived on Broadway.

I saw it and can't remember a thing about it.

It had a few things to recommend it. The biggest was the performance by whatisname in the title role. He had my vote for the Tony.
There were also in the final concert sequence three girl back-up singers wearing The Last and Only Costumes: floor length white tulle evening dresses, almost bridal gowns, with elbow length white gloves, and these wonderful gals sang and did all the moves in these delightful perfectly period funny and camp get-ups.
The show was a big hit in the West End, but La Channing is right. There wasn't much of an audience for it here.
Perhaps as a star (but who?) summer package to play Kansas City, St Louis, Dallas and the big barns and ampitheatres on the road.

Paul Hipp played Buddy. He mostly does tv now. He lost the Tony to Jonathan Pryce for Miss Saigon.
