It had a few things to recommend it. The biggest was the performance by whatisname in the title role. He had my vote for the Tony.
There were also in the final concert sequence three girl back-up singers wearing The Last and Only Costumes: floor length white tulle evening dresses, almost bridal gowns, with elbow length white gloves, and these wonderful gals sang and did all the moves in these delightful perfectly period funny and camp get-ups.
The show was a big hit in the West End, but La Channing is right. There wasn't much of an audience for it here.
Perhaps as a star (but who?) summer package to play Kansas City, St Louis, Dallas and the big barns and ampitheatres on the road.
