Gotta console myself with a little theater fix, after the G.V disappointment.
Kids are coming in from school and I got tickets to see La Cage on the 21st. Has anyone seen it and enjoyed ?

I saw it last night and LOVED IT!

Granted, I'm a terrible person who couldn't stop internally giggling b/c she loves The Birdcage and never saw La Cage....but I really appreciated the way things went in the musical so much more. My love for Gary Beach knows no bounds. And those Cagelles! Oh my dear lord. F***IN FABULOUS!! The absolute funniest thing was uttered by the woman behind us after "We Are What We Are"-- "Oh my god, they're men!" What's scary is that she was serious. I have finally joined the Gavin-Creel-is-foxy train as well. I'm so glad that we didn't have to see much of the fiancee's family, as those scenes either bored me or pissed me off....but I'm supposed to be pissed off, so that's effective.

I can't wait to see it again! I need to bring my friends! God, that's so shill-y, but I do!

I'm not cabarethed but I was there and there was no BC/EFA speech.

Also the running time Wednesday night was about 2:40 if I recall correctly, so Jgssf, you should be out before 6:00. Ruby Foo's is pretty good, if not a little pricey for my taste.

I got tickets for May but as soon as I got them I realized I can't wait that long! So........got right back on the web and got more tickets for Dec. 27th (the monday after Xmas!). It's usually a dark day, but I guess they're adding because of the holiday week. Great seats still available! Can't wait!

the goal is it to get it down from 2:40 to 2:20 by opening. on Wednesday night it was a good ten shorter than the 1st preview.

WHY!!! Elch, I really hope they don't cut that much of the dancing. It is unbelievable.

the only thing I noticed to be cut down was Chantelle's bit in the opener and maybe a small part of the tap break. But I think the tap break may have just been taken faster. The pacing was just better overall. The show hasn't lost anything of consequence. I think they're fine as long as they keep David Henry Hwang away from it.

I saw La Cage this afternoon, with the kids (in their 20s) then had dinner at Sardis which was very good too.
We all likeded the show very much. The general consensus was to give it an 8 1/2 score out of 10. I think that the dance numbers went on a little too long, and actually I wouldve liked to have seen Gary Beach dancing more in the production numbers himself, but my goodness how can you not like a show where men/woman dressed as firebirds swing from cords on each side of the stage, while Gary Beach/Albin in a gorgeous pink gown swings on a swing high up in the air. I saw him in the producers too and he was very funny in that as well. It was clever and funny, but of course it wasnt all comedy. His I am what I am was very dramatic and poignant as were other scenes. It is a very good and affecting story. And who knew "Niles" from the Nanny could sing and act too.
I wasnt quite sure what to make of the "maid". He was kind of a Whoopie Goldberg/Chapelle as opposed to the really flamboyant "Sparticus" in the Bird Cage movie. The kids preferred him this way. I think I liked the other way, and I also preferred the South Beach Flash to the Saint Tropez flavor.
The show was very entertaining. The theater was just about full, and they did get a standing ovation at the end.
It was a satisfying afternoon of broadway musical theater. Singing, Dancing, Funny, Touching, Spectacle. Everything we want in a Broadway Show.
Next up for me Harvey Feirstein as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof with my mother! OY!
Good day all around, but what can I tell you, I still really wanted to see Justin on broadway. sigh....

I was at this afternoon's performance as well and I completely agree with you. I was highly entertained. The dancers and the choreography was amazing. As were the costumes. I thought the cast was very strong. This one show I'm definately going to have to visit a second time.
